Why did the IAT cutoff decrease in the 2nd round? Many students think the cutoff should always increase in the next round, but that is not necessarily true. The cutoff can move to a higher rank number (i.e., become less competitive) in later rounds because of seat movement and candidate choices. For example: In Round 1, some candidates receive seats and accept/freeze them. Some candidates float/upgrade to another IISER in later rounds. When candidates move or withdraw, seats become available. These vacant seats are then offered to candidates further down the rank list. Therefore, the closing rank can increase, meaning the cutoff appears to decrease. What about IISER Kolkata and IISER Mohali? If seats in these IISERs become available because of upgradation, withdrawal, or changes in candidate preferences, those seats can be offered to candidates with higher rank numbers in subsequent rounds. So, a lower cutoff score or higher closing rank in Round 2 does not mean the admission system is wrong. It is a normal result of the seat-allocation process. One important point The same student can also appear in multiple rounds because their seat may be upgraded or their allocation may change according to their preferences and available seats.

FAQ: Why was I not allotted an IISER seat even though my rank is under the cutoff? Q1. My rank is below the cutoff, but I was not allotted any IISER seat. Why? There can be several reasons: 1. Invalid or incorrect documents uploaded - Category certificate (OBC-NCL/EWS) was not valid. - The date of issue of the OBC-NCL/EWS certificate must be on or after 1 April of the admission year. - Class 12 marksheet was not the original document (e.g., screenshot, photocopy, black & white image, or unclear copy). 2. Documents were not uploaded during the document upload window. 3. Documents were not submitted properly before the document verification deadline. Q2. I could not upload a valid OBC-NCL/EWS certificate. Will my seat be cancelled? No. If your category certificate is invalid or not accepted, you will be considered under the General (Open) category. You can still receive a seat if your AIR (General Rank) is within the cutoff. Q3. I uploaded all valid documents correctly, but I still did not receive a seat. If all your documents were valid and submitted successfully, it may be due to a technical issue. In that case, immediately contact the IISER Admissions Help & Support Team (IISER Berhampur) and report your issue. Q4. I am comparing my category rank with the official cutoff. Is that correct? No. The category-wise cutoff published by IISER is based on Common Rank (AIR/General Rank) within each reservation category, not your category rank. Example: - If you belong to EWS and your EWS Rank is 100, do not compare it with the published cutoff. - Instead, compare your Common Rank (AIR/General Rank) with the cutoff shown for the EWS category. This is one of the most common reasons for confusion. Q5. When will physical document verification/reporting happen? The reporting date for physical document verification will be announced soon. Keep checking your registered email and the IISER admission portal regularly for updates and reporting instructions. Note: If your rank is genuinely within the applicable cutoff and all your documents were uploaded correctly, but you still have not received a seat, contact the IISER Admissions Help Desk as soon as possible.
