The GBPUSD pair paused for breath Wednesday morning on its way toward a potential double bottom. The British pound has been in a consistent decline over the past three weeks, erasing 2.7% from its valuation against a stronger dollar. A recent move by the Bank of England made things worse for the native currency — the central bank cut interest rates on August 1 for the first time since 2020. Markets are waiting to see if the pair will reach $1.26 — from current prices of $1.27 — where bulls last took control and shot the sterling to a one-year high of $1.3045. The $1.26 level may act as cushioning to the bearish effort to bring down the price. In other words, a rebound may be expected at that level if bulls decide to challenge the downturn and flip the script.
