Britain spent 40% of its entire GDP — £30 million — to end slavery across the Empire. The debt was only paid off in our lifetime. The Slave Trade Act 1807 and Slavery Abolition Act 1833 didn’t just ban the trade. British taxpayers funded emancipation and apprenticeships for existing slaves. Yet most of us were never taught this. Why? Every culture has blood on its hands. But who actually abolished slavery and forced the rest of the world to follow?

The Lord's Prayer is part of Australia's Christian heritage and has been prayed in our parliaments for generations. Now the WA Parliament is considering removing it, with claims that it is outdated, offensive, and stands in the way of a Welcome to Country. As Christians, we should not be silent. We need to stand firm, defend our Christian heritage, and speak with both courage and respect. As Scripture says, "Be strong and courageous" and "the righteous are as bold as a lion." Most people don’t know this… The British abolished the slave trade — at their own expense. John Newton (slave trader turned pastor who wrote Amazing Grace) became a fierce abolitionist and pastor to William Wilberforce. Edmund Burke was in the same circle. Scripture drove them: “He who steals a man… shall be put to death” (Exodus 21:16) All nations of one blood (Acts 17:26) The Golden Rule This Christian conviction changed history. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm. Don’t go back to the yoke of slavery. 2000 years of positive change… rooted in this truth. No condemnation for those in Christ Jesus. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. That’s why the West is different. We’ve stepped away from the church… and now people have no idea who they really are. Before Christianity, unwanted children were discarded. Plato and Aristotle taught that defective or unfit children should be exposed — left on hillsides, thrown down wells, or abandoned at rubbish tips. In Rome, it was legal to leave a child (especially a girl) outside to die if you couldn’t afford them or didn’t want them. Christians were the ones who went and rescued those children. Why? Because every human is made in the image of God — male and female. Wealth, status, or usefulness doesn’t change your value. That idea reshaped the West. Most people have no idea where it came from. Are we no longer a Christian country due to there being separation of church and state? St Augustine (City of God) distinguished the fragile earthly realm from the eternal kingdom — and gave us the very idea of the secular. It traces back to Jesus: “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” Separation of church and state isn’t a rejection of Christianity.
