Passing Rubber Guard
A good way to increase the amount of submissions you get is to have a graduating series of chokes in your arsenal, particularly against very resistant opponents. Gordon opens up here with a Demian Maia style choke from back mount, a convenient choice with the grips he had, and it lets him start the strangle early. Once he determined Nolf wasn’t going to tap to that level of pressure, rather than burn out his arms squeezing harder, he graduated to a more powerful, and more efficient finish with the full RNC.
The strength of the cross-body ride in BJJ is how it lets you attack the entire length of the body in rapid succession. Legs, (calf-slicers and ancillary leglocks) arms, (kimura) spine (twister/freestyle guillotine) and chokes (rnc) And these options all lead into each other naturally as your opponent tries to defend. There aren’t many positions with as much versatility in grappling.
Enjoy annoying people at your gym with this escape until more people learn about it 😂
Switch to post rear mount. It counters this escape quite nicely.

How do you beat this as the guy attacking the back?
Keeping responsible defensive hands in place is still a must.
If they lock the body triangle very tight and hook their toes behind your leg, you can “pump” the motion and it still works.
Keys points are keeping your elbow glue to the inside of their knee to avoid getting your arm trapped.
This works, and shockingly well at that.

It’s super important that you maintain control over the outside leg when attacking/passing K-Guard (and a lot of other open guards) The outside leg is what allows the guard player to invert into their most dangerous attacking positions. While there are attacks on the inside leg you must make sure that outside leg is addressed FIRST.
The first level of defense is learning the fundamental escapes to basic static pins. The next level is learning to chain your escapes together to match an opponent that’s chaining their offense together.

But this is probably the most dramatic example of it I’ve ever seen. For competitors it’s very important you train your retention and escape movements to end in some kind of offensive maneuver wherever it’s possible. Offense tends to lead to more offense in Jiujitsu and one of the only ways to make someone relent is to put them on their back foot with an attack of your own.
There are very few holds, grips, or submissions in jiujitsu that aren’t improved by incorporating the element of shearing forces.
https://x.com/jiujitsuotter/status/1981462954336784784?s=46 Setups like this do amazing things for the success rate of your butterfly sweeps. A lot of popular guillotine defenses start with an opponent making space between their hips and yours (to keep you from locking a guard) which allows you to get your butterfly hooks in good position without much fuss. This dynamic combined with the head control afforded by the guillotine makes sweeps very easy.
While other leglocks may offer more damaging breaks, a toe hold is generally the fastest-acting submission in a shootout
Something not enough people talk about; being in proper posture to defend leglocks. In supine position with legs extended and heavily favoring a hip that leaves his inside heel exposed. It was always going to be difficult to roll, hand fight, or attempt a heist to try and defend any prospective leglock from Mikey. Some Ashi configurations require you to go to your back to unwind yourself from them. You want to do your absolute best to minimize the time spent there and always consider how much control they have over your leg when you pick at which point you decide to fall to your back.
