Normally I probably wouldnt think much of it, except I spent most of today filming Flock cameras around town, then made this Facebook post with pictures of the local cameras that started getting a decent amount of attention. These cameras can keep track of when and where vehicles are spotted, and police can search that information later. There have even been cases of cops using them to track exes and people they had personal relationships with. That kinda makes you think. Who can see this information? How long is it kept? Can other departments get it? And what stops somebody from abusing it? I’m not saying Flock cameras are automatically bad or that every cop is abusing them. I just think 17 cameras tracking cars around a town like Thomasville is worth talking about. Maybe they make us safer. Maybe they don’t.
