J'apprends le décès, ces jours derniers, de Thierry Mudry. Auteur d'une thèse sur Le mouvement nationaliste dans les Bouches-du-Rhône de l'affaire Boulanger à la grande guerre : 1888-1914 qui donnait une large part au blanquisme et de plusieurs articles sur la Révolution conservatrice, il avait été le deus ex machina du groupe Le Partisan Européen puis avait participé à la création de Nouvelle Résistance et du Front Européen de Libération. "Retiré" de la politique depuis de nombreuses années, il était avocat à Marseille, avait été chercheur associé à l'Observatoire du religieux d'Aix-en-Provence et collaborateur de Conflits.

Autumn 1933 saw Fascist Italy and the Soviet Union quietly seal a pragmatic understanding that surprised many at the time. On September 2 in Rome, Mussolini and Soviet ambassador Vladimir Potëmkin signed the Pact of Friendship, Non-Aggression and Neutrality. The agreement rested on years of steady commercial exchange and a shared caution toward German ambitions in Central Europe and the Balkans. It bound each side not to attack the other, to remain neutral should the other face aggression from a third power, and to refrain from political or economic combinations directed against one another. Geography, trade, and mutual suspicion of Berlin proved, for a season, stronger than the differences between the two regimes. The understanding held until June 1941, when Hitler's attack on the Soviet Union forced Mussolini's reluctant entry into the conflict — an episode the Duce would later bitterly recall as one more instance of German betrayal. The National Bolsheviks saw themselves as modern Scythians. They looked to the Iranian-speaking nomadic warriors who controlled the steppes north of the Black Sea between the eighth and second centuries BC, and set that existence against the settled habits of post-Soviet Russia. The comparison revived the Scythianism that appeared in Russian culture after 1917, most clearly in Alexander Blok's poem of January 1918, and carried the older image of steppe mobility into the party's programme. Readiness for war and the refusal of bourgeois society were treated as the necessary conditions for national rebirth.
