Reverse Shells A reverse shell is a technique where a target machine initiates a connection back to an external system allowing remote command execution over that connection. Unlike traditional shells that require inbound access a reverse shell operates over outbound communication channels typically using common protocols like TCP. This makes it effective in environments where inbound connections are restricted but outbound traffic is permitted. Once established the connection provides an interactive shell enabling full control over the compromised system within the context of the running process. Depending on the setup it can be upgraded to more stable or fully interactive sessions.
