34% of Ethereum’s Supply Is Now Staked as New Proposal Could Significantly Reduce Validator Rewards Around 34% of Ethereum’s total ETH supply is currently staked, up from approximately 29% at the beginning of 2026. A new proposal, known as EIP-8361, has been introduced to reduce rewards for staking participants. Under the proposal, staking rewards would decline as more ETH is committed to the network. The proposal aims to address concerns that the current reward structure disproportionately benefits large institutions, including centralized exchanges and custody providers, while putting smaller stakers and non-staking ETH holders at a disadvantage. If implemented, Ethereum staking yields could fall by more than half over the next 18 months.
