Between Plath and Didion: the most important lesson I learned in my 20's

Heaven's case still haunts me. I remember signing a petition back then too. However, our legal system seems to misunderstand that it is only her who had been wronged. This is the least we can do. But let's do it. And in due time, we will be louder. Fuck the men who continue to be more barbaric than a prehistoric rock, and the law which keeps emancipating them. Things are so bad that the next petition that comes up is for criminalizing marital rape 🤦♂ [Petition]
Two things (both came in convo with Occipital): - The first one is on immortality. My argument is that at one point, you'd lose meaning because you don't have a deadline. His argument is that there are infinite creations you can experience and create, that you can never get bored. And honestly, I can see that, very much. - The second is how we, as human beings, can take the basics of what we're given and transform it in such different ways that you get a lot of unique perspectives. My point of view here is with art. It's essentially the equivalent of how many colors we've been able to create from very few fundamental colors and how many ways we've been able to transform those. It's insane bchas, the amount we create and continue to create. It's brilliant, it's beautiful, and it's truly endless, it's crazy.
25 things i learned by 25 1. The way you talk to yourself in your head is SO important than anything else in life. 2. When you take ownership of everything that happens to you, and live life like its 100% in your control, you feel happier. 3. Pouring fat…
ahh the pieces of history still left at piassa
I actually have lost interest in it. I have no desire for someone to find out that the backs of my upper arms are sensitive or that I have freckles on my back or that the veins on my chest are very green. I find no comfort in thinking that someone will laugh at my jokes or hunger for my lips or find my chopped up paintings pretty. The prospect of learning someones favorite food or preferred combination of colors or the slant of their writing does not excite me. I do not wish to know and I do not wish to be known. Not anymore. There is no bleeding heart in my chest that wails for its other half. My brain is lacking of the static, the frantic buzz that accompanies the need be stimulated, validated, celebrated by another. I don't yearn. I dont want. Anyone. Love. It's strange because I used to, as long as I remember I've been wanting to meld with someone, to be chosen, to consume and be consumed. I don't feel like that anymore. There is no missing in me. No reminiscing of a past nor dreaming of a future. There is only now and I'm suspended in a strange space of just ... being. Alone. And for the first time in a long time, I don't wish that someone was there with me. Perhaps someday I will want someone to be in all the nooks and crannies of my being again. That's just not today. #its2am #donotworryaboutme #genuinelyitsinsultingstop

Okay, this is finally up. Not a men vs women thing, not a lecture. A lot of us live in a bubble, tech, creative, liberal spaces, where things look fine for women, but there's a mindset that follows us out of it and into our own heads. I wrote a piece to show what it's actually like to move through the world as a woman, so you feel it instead of being argued at. Including what the "man-hater" is really reacting to, because it isn't hate, even when it sounds like it. Please read the whole thing, it's one picture, and the pieces only add up together. Half of it out of context reads wrong. If you've ever been confused why women say it's still not okay when it looks fine to you, this is the walk-through. https://frostysiren.substack.com/p/on-being-seen?r=8ulkmq And if it resonates, share it with anyone you think it might reach, women who'll feel seen, and men who genuinely want to understand
For a documentary made almost 40 years ago, I can't put it in words how beautifully well done this is , just captures 70s-80s Ethiopia's context in music, culture and political history perfectly
What are the lock-in apps/aids/tips you use? They could be time-trackers, focus session aids.... You can DM me at @not_eldana or comment it here :)
Today's read: The African Enlightenment.
Anybody know any co-working spaces near Lebu? With space for meetings bihon demo it'd be super nice. DM @not_eldana or comment, thanks in advance ;)
On business models How much of your success is determined by you having a corporate/rich people element than the general, consumer-based model? Three things I noticed that made me see this as a pattern: - Think about ride services. Nowadays, I can't help but think the majority of their profits come from the minor percentage of their customers that spend the most money. I don't think your measly 2k per month (while substantial) compares to some people's 100k per month. And I keep wondering, how much of their profit margins are underutilized because they don't (as far as my knowledge goes) offer corporate packages, monthly/annual packages, and/or drivers as a service? - The art industry, specifically, the western music industry. Have you noticed how much symbolism, care, craft, and artistry goes into seemingly simple lyrics and music videos? I keep wondering, with the level of care some of these works go through, who the real audience is. I don't think the majority of fans, especially regarding artists that dabble much more into the artistry than getting their literal message across, are there for the artistic experience. The best example I can give here is BTS, which ok, won't obviously be classified as western. One of the reasons I keep going back to the songs of RM, BTS's leader and my favorite artist, is because of the rabbit hole his lyrics and artistry takes me to. And I think this influence of his heavily applies to BTS, because under the heavy calculation that happens in the kpop industry to make songs viral, there's an entirely different world of care, genuine artistry, and philosophy that goes on. It makes me wonder whether this is the reason they're successful, which in turn, makes me wonder, is this success tied to the general mass or to the specific people willing to go deeper, to dig into Jungian psychology, and to look into kpop's history and korean art? - The third, and perhaps the best example I have, is social media. Sure, seemingly, the users are the business model, but really? As we all know, the majority, if not all, of the income of social media companies comes from corporate/influential deals and ads. Which makes one wonder, how much of those corporate and advertisement deals influence user experience than actual concern for the user? And again, who are the true customers here truly? And does what make or break the success of a social media app lie on how much it plays the corporate/business game, or the user game? As an incoming product person, I do have a good answer for this. But I'm thinking the general question, who do we define as the real customers and what are their interests, still holds up. If you have essays, articles, or research papers regarding this, let me know ;) #TheBlogSeries #Sleepforwho
I'll leave with one of the speeches/essays I keep going back to since reading it when I was super young. We should all be feminists. For all the work left to do, I'm very very grateful for what's been paved so far and for the women that keep showing us the way. I believe the way we honour them is by using the privileges they fought so hard for, which is what I plan on doing anyway :) Night :)
Women I've been reading up on/following recently that I think are absolute divas. - Toni Morrison - Susan Sontag - Kanessa Muluneh I love a loud bold woman. I love an intelligent woman. And I love an unapologetically herself, independent woman. I might not agree or like everything they say or are, but damn, are they absolute divas.
