Momentum Is The Entire Point The hardest part of building a business isn’t getting started. It’s continuing when things are not working. Twitter bros and podcast hosts love to throw around trite advice like “just get started.” It is an easy trope to repeat, but it is actually bad advice. Getting started, especially when you are excited, is easy. The hard part comes when you are a year or two in, working on your business every day, and you just cannot seem to break through. Seth Godin calls this The Dip. It is a critical point in your journey because it separates the real entrepreneurs from the people who simply like the idea of being an entrepreneur. Building a business is hard, and it is supposed to be hard. In the beginning, your objective shouldn’t be to succeed. It should simply be to generate momentum. All that matters is building confidence and creating a system you can replicate. The early stages are full of friction. You are learning, making mistakes, and discovering what does not work. Friction is the enemy of momentum. But over time, the rough block of clay that represents your business rounds out into a ball. Once it starts rolling, generating success becomes easier every single day.

There is a market in desperate need of your ability. You need to find it. And when you do, you will capitalize, all while wondering what took you so long.
