On July 2, 1961, Hemingway committed suicide. In the early 1980s, after a request to the FBI under the Freedom of Information Act, it became known that his suspicions were justified: he was indeed being followed, phones were tapped, mail was being read, and accounts were being monitored. FROM THE PAST
Hemingway has experienced many illnesses and misfortunes: skin cancer, anthrax, anemia, malaria, diabetes, hepatitis and pneumonia. He came out alive from two plane crashes, despite a ruptured kidney and spleen, as well as a broken vertebra at the base of his skull, which, fortunately, healed correctly, saving him from paralysis. He suffered from concussions almost every year. In the last years of his life, Hemingway struggled with severe depression. It seemed to him that FBI agents were watching him, phones were tapped, bugs were installed, his mail was being read, and bank accounts were being monitored... Hemingway was prescribed electroshock therapy to treat depression, and after 13 sessions he lost his memory, which deprived him of the ability to write.
