Когда шоколад реально работает на экзамене 🍫 Многие считают, что если съесть перед экзаменом шоколадку, мозг заработает быстрее. Есть и обратная точка зрения: сахар всё испортит. Кто прав? Правда посередине. Какао-бобы богаты флавоноидами. Эти вещества способствуют расширению сосудов и притоку крови в нужные отделы нашего мозга. Но есть подводный камень: это работает ТОЛЬКО в условиях достаточной гидратации. Если вы обезвожены (а утром перед экзаменом мы часто пьём мало), кровь становится гуще. Кроме того, сахар и молоко в шоколадках убивают весь эффект. Вместо ясности ума мы получаем инсулиновые качели, на которых вообще может клонить в сон. Поэтому важно: 🔹Не путать десерты — батончики и шоколадки — с настоящим шоколадом. Берём только горький шоколад (не менее 75% какао), обходим стороной молоко, сахар и растительные жиры. 🔹Пить достаточно воды. 🔹Есть шоколадку за 40–50 минут до начала экзамена, чтобы флавоноиды успели усвоиться. А злоупотреблять сладким — с точки зрения работы мозга — нельзя ни в коем случае.

📩 New message received: The "Mistake Ladder" Method By Ionov Tikhon Most students think that making mistakes is bad. They feel embarrassed, they stop speaking, they are afraid. But here is the truth: your mistakes are your best teachers. The method I use is called the "Mistake Ladder" - you climb up by falling down first. The idea is simple. When you learn a new English word or phrase, do not try to say it perfectly right away. First, guess. Write your wrong version. Wait ten minutes. Then look at the correct answer and say the difference out loud, like you are explaining it to a friend. For example, I was learning "I have been working." My brain wanted to say "I am working since morning." I wrote that down, waited, then compared and said out loud: "No - in English you use 'have been' for something that started before and is still happening." That one mistake, and the small moment of fixing it, made me remember the rule forever. This works because when you expect something and the real answer is different, your brain gets a small shock. Simple repetition is quiet - the brain gets bored and forgets. But a mistake is loud. The brain stays awake. One important rule: the mistake must be yours. Your own wrong guess is special, because your brain made it. If someone else drops a cup, you watch. If you drop a cup, you never forget the sound. So pick three words you always forget. Write a wrong sentence with each one. Wait. Fix it. Say the correction out loud. That is the whole method - simple, a little uncomfortable, and very effective.
📩 New message received: When it was time to start preparing for my history exam, I was really worried. There was so much material to learn. The exam had three big sections: history as a science, Russian history , and great Russian personalities. There was a problem for me, I had never been a fan of this subject. As I read page after page, I started falling asleep. Studying felt useless. Then I discovered a method called interleaving.What is interleaving? Instead of studying one topic for hours, you mix different topics in one session. For example, in math, you do 2 algebra problems, then 2 geometry, then 2 calculus problems. This forces your brain to constantly choose the right approach. It feels harder, but you learn much better for real exams and real life. I decided to try to applying this approach to history. I stopped studying each block separately. Instead, I made 30–40 minute sessions like this: 8 minutes to "Historical sources" 8 minutes to "The baptism of Rus'" 7 minutes to "Yaroslav the Wise" 8 minutes to "Historical method" 7 minutes to "The Time of Troubles" And 5 minutes to "Speaking out loud about Alexander II" I never spent more than 10–15 minutes on one topic. The constant switching kept me awake and alert. On the exam, I was asked about the first Romanovs. I immediately thought about the restoration of Russia's political course in the 17th century, and then about Patriarch Nikon and Tsar Alexei. Because I had mixed events and personalities before, the connections came naturally. This approach to studying helped my brain learn how to switch between events, methods, and people. The core idea is that you deliberately allow yourself to make an error, record the incorrect answer, take a pause, then compare your mistake with the correct version and verbalize the difference. The error becomes a learning tool. I applied this method while studying the chart of accounts in accounting. I read the first section of the chart, then closed the list and forced myself to name all the accounts in order, intentionally making mistakes — for example, confusing active accounts with passive ones or substituting similar names. I wrote down my incorrect versions. After a ten‑minute pause, I opened the correct chart of accounts, read it once, then compared each erroneous answer with the original, saying the difference out loud. Two hours later, I could recall seven out of eight accounts, whereas with ordinary repetition without error generation my result never exceeded four or five. The idea is that when something is too easy, the brain doesn’t really try, so the information doesn’t stay for long. But when you add a small difficulty, your brain has to work more, and this helps you remember better. It’s like you don’t just repeat information, you actually think about it and use it. Because of this, the memory becomes stronger, not just temporary. I have big problems with remembering words, so simple repetition doesn’t work for me. I forget very fast. Now when I learn a new word, I don’t translate it. I try to explain it in simple English or make a small sentence. For example, instead of translating “exhausted”, I say: “very tired, no energy”. It’s harder, but because of that I remember words much better.

🧐 What expectations do we bring to university? Everyone comes to university with certain expectations about how learning should work. Some of these expectations help us study. Some can unintentionally make studying feel harder or more frustrating. 👇 Below are a few common expectations students often have. Just read them and notice which one feels most familiar to you. 1️⃣ Expectation: “I should understand everything during the class.” When a topic is explained, it feels natural to expect that it should immediately make sense. If it doesn’t, the reaction may be: -“This is too fast.” -“This is too complicated.” -“I’m already lost.” But in many university courses, understanding often appears after the class, when students return to the material on their own. 💭 A question to think about: Do I allow myself time for understanding to develop later? 2️⃣ Expectation: “Conditions should be the same everywhere.” Students often notice differences between: -groups -courses -academics -grading systems This comparison is natural. But sometimes it can lead to thoughts like: “Why is it harder here than somewhere else?” In reality, universities rarely function with perfectly identical conditions, because different academics emphasize different things. 💭 A question to think about: What matters more for me — comparing conditions or focusing on what I personally gain from the course? 3️⃣ Expectation: “Workload should feel manageable right away.” Many students are used to a system where: -the pace is adjusted during lessons -assignments are predictable -the workload is evenly distributed At university the structure is often different: the pace follows the program a significant part of learning happens independently between classes. Because of this, it can sometimes feel like “there is suddenly too much to do.” 💭 A question to think about: How do I distribute my work between classes? 4️⃣ Expectation: “If I put in a lot of effort, the grade should reflect that effort.” It’s natural to feel that hard work should be rewarded. But in many university courses, grades are usually based on: -the result -accuracy -depth of understanding This can create a frustrating feeling: “I spent a lot of time on this — why isn’t the result higher?” 💭 A question to think about: What do I see as the main indicator of success: the effort I put in, or the result I achieve? 🔍 One final thought Sometimes studying feels difficult not only because of the subject itself, but because our expectations and the learning system don’t fully match. When we start noticing this difference, learning often becomes much easier to navigate. #SelfReflection
🤔 Why does studying sometimes feel overwhelming? Sometimes a course feels difficult not only because of the material itself, but because of how we approach the work: when we start tasks, how we organize them, or what we expect from the learning process. 👇 Below are a few short situations. There are no right or wrong answers — this is just a way to reflect on your own study habits. Just read and notice which option feels closest to what you usually do. 1️⃣ When a large assignment appears, my first reaction is usually: A — I break it into smaller steps and start with the first part. B — I spend some time thinking about how to approach it. C — I postpone it because it looks too big. 2️⃣ When I feel that “there is too much studying”, it usually happens because: A — several deadlines fall close to each other. B — the task looks complicated at first glance. C — some tasks were postponed earlier and accumulated. 3️⃣ After receiving an assignment, I usually start working on it: A — the same day or the next day. B — a few days later. C — close to the deadline. 4️⃣ If a topic was difficult during class, later I usually: A — come back to it (notes, materials, internet, examples). B — hope it will become clearer during the next class. C — don’t usually return to it unless necessary. 5️⃣ If I look at the whole week, studying usually feels difficult because: A — the topics themselves are challenging. B — sometimes it’s not clear where to start. C — tasks accumulate at the same time. 🔍 You might notice a pattern. 🔹 Mostly A The difficulty probably comes from the actual complexity of the material. This is normal in university — understanding often develops gradually. 🔹 Mostly B The challenge may be uncertainty about how to begin a task. When the first step becomes clear, the work often becomes easier. 🔹 Mostly C The feeling of overload may come from tasks accumulating over time. Even manageable assignments can feel overwhelming when several appear at once. 💡 A useful question to ask yourself: What exactly makes studying feel difficult for me right now? -the material itself -uncertainty about how to start -accumulation of tasks -something else Sometimes just identifying the source of the difficulty already makes the situation more manageable. #SelfReflection
