⚫️SOME WILDLIFE SANCTUARY and TIGER 🐅 RESERVES IN NEWS ✍ 1. A tiger has been officially spotted in Gujarat's Ratanmahal Wildlife Sanctuary (WLS), marking the first confirmed sighting of the species in the state since it was declared extinct in 1989. 2. The Supreme Court of India directed the Jharkhand government to declare 31,468.25 hectares of the Saranda forest area as a wildlife sanctuary. 3. A Supreme Court appointed panel has suggested notifying a new tiger reserve in Goa. The recommendation proposes Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary and Netravali Wildlife Sanctuary as the core area. It also identifies Bhagwan Mahavir National Park, known for the Dudhsagar waterfall, as the buffer zone. This landscape lies adjacent to the Kali Tiger Reserve of Karnataka, forming an important interstate wildlife corridor. 4. Chhattisgarh's Forest Department launched a successful 2021-2026 Blackbuck Revival Plan, reintroducing the species to Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary after a 50-year local extinction 5. The Madhya Pradesh cabinet has given in-principle approval to develop the Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve, located at Nauradehi in Sagar district, as the third habitat in the state for the world's fastest animal Cheetah The first cheetah habitat was opened at the Kuno National Park (KNP) in Sheopur in September 2022, and the second one at the Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary in Mandsaur in April this year. 6. Dalma sanctuary has initiated the 2025 wild animal census, utilizing modern equipment like camera traps, thermal imaging scopes, and GPS trackers to survey species including the tiger. It is located in Jharkhand 7. World Lion Day 2025 was celebrated on August 10th, with the main event held at Barda Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat India 8. Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the state of Odisha, India, specifically in the Bargarh district, near the Hirakud Reservoir, and received approval in July 2025 to become India's newest Tiger Reserve, making it Odisha's third after Similipal and Satkosia. 9.
