Engineers who combine deep networking knowledge with automation, cloud, security, and AI tools will remain in high demand and often move into higher-paying roles such as Network Architect, Cloud Network Engineer, Network Automation Engineer, SASE Engineer, or Principal Infrastructure Engineer. Given your focus on advanced networking topics such as SD-WAN, Cisco Nexus, Aruba, NSX, and interview preparation, adding AI-assisted automation, cloud networking (especially Azure), and modern security concepts to your expertise will make your skills much more resilient over the next several years.
As an experienced Network engineer do you know what and how AI is replacing job ? Do we need to learn AI to replace networking ? Or we need to learn AI in networking to strengthen current requirement. Do you know the biggest risk and focus area in today's date while preparing for interview ? I would say this: > The biggest risk today is not AI replacing network engineers. The biggest risk is network engineers who don't learn AI, automation, cloud, and security. The networking industry is changing faster than ever. Companies no longer want engineers who only configure routers and switches. They want engineers who can design, automate, secure, and troubleshoot hybrid environments. What companies are hiring for in 2026 1. Network Automation (Highest Priority) This is the number one skill. Learn: Python REST APIs Ansible Git/GitHub Jinja2 JSON/YAML Terraform (basic) Companies now expect engineers to automate repetitive tasks instead of configuring hundreds of devices manually. Interview questions now include: How do you automate switch configuration? Have you worked with APIs? Can you explain Infrastructure as Code? --- 2. AI in Networking You don't need to become an AI engineer. Instead learn how to use AI for: Troubleshooting Log analysis Configuration generation Documentation RCA creation Automation scripting Popular AI tools: ChatGPT Claude Gemini GitHub Copilot Companies now expect engineers to work with AI, not compete against it. --- 3. Cloud Networking Many enterprises are moving to cloud. Focus on: Azure Networking AWS Networking Google Cloud Networking Topics: VPC/VNet VPN ExpressRoute Direct Connect Load Balancer DNS Security Groups Transit Gateway --- 4. SD-WAN Still one of the hottest skills. Strengthen networking fundamentals (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VXLAN, EVPN).
