BELIEVING IN AMULETS The Lajnah al-Dāʾimah (Permanent Committee) said: Amulets containing disjointed letters, talismans, or words whose meaning is not understood, or containing beads, shells, or the like - these are forbidden amulets if one does not believe they possess the power to benefit or harm, but rather that they are a means. Wearing them is considered minor shirk, due to the Prophet's ﷺ saying: "Whoever wears an amulet, may Allāh not grant him his wish, and whoever wears a shell, may Allāh not grant him peace." In another narration: "Whoever wears an amulet has committed shirk." Wearing them may also be major shirk if the wearer believes that they will ward off harm by themselves, rather than being a means to it. The person who writes these amulets must be advised and warned against this practice. If he responds, all is well. Otherwise, the responsible authority must remove him from leading prayers so that people are not deceived by him and imitate him. Prayer behind him is valid if one does not believe in the amulets' inherent power. — Fatāwā al-Lajnah al-Dāʾimah 1/122

KNOWLEDGE OF TAWḤĪD Shaykh al-Islām Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb رحمه الله said: The greatest and most obligatory form of right—the first thing Allāh made obligatory—is Tawḥīd. Tawḥīd is a description of your action: if all your deeds are for Allāh, you are a monotheist; but if they contain association of a created being, you are a polytheist. Whoever follows the Messenger ﷺ in this religion will have Paradise; but whoever does not obey him or pays no heed to what he brought will be in the Fire. These are the matters about which a person will be questioned in his grave. If he did not know them, the angels will strike him with an iron hammer which, were all the people of Minā to gather together, they could not lift. Therefore, a person must fear the Fire and hope for Paradise. Allāh's aid is sought. — al-Durar al-Saniyyah fī al-Ajwibah al-Najdiyyah 1/168
FROM FEMINISM TO ḤADĪTH REJECTION Shaykh Ḥassan al-Ṣūmālī حفظه الله said: Feminism. Why do these things? Why do they appear? Why do we find online some sisters voicing some of these things? And we'll discuss some of the reasons. It may be that some of them have experienced mistreatment from some Muslim men. It's possible. Human beings are not perfect. So it's possible that a woman was in an abusive marriage, or she came from a household where the father was oppressive. And that is all that she knows as it relates to men. To go down the wrong path, some women blame all men. The correct position is what? That was a bad experience; not all men are like that. Rather, in Islām, if we're looking for an example, the best example is the Prophet ﷺ, then the Companions, then the Tābiʿūn, then the Atbāʿ al-Tābiʿīn, then the righteous from amongst us. It's the same way if a man was in a marriage and the woman was abusive, it would be unfair for that man to blame all women. That's unjust; that's unfair. What's the next step? They say the scholars interpreted Islām through a male lens. This patriarchy, that's male-dominated. Stage one, maybe a woman was mistreated—some of them. Some of them is ideological. Maybe some of them—and it's possible some of them may want to weaken Islām from within. But some women legitimately may have a legitimate qualm, but Shayṭān utilizes that to misguide her. Then she says, "Islām, it's only being explained through a male lens. The ʿUlamāʾ, they're biased because they're men." The third step: we don't accept ḥadīth. Ḥadīth rejectionism. Look, it started maybe with a grievance—the way she was treated. Then, you know, Islām is being explained through a male lens; this is the patriarchy. Third step: we can't trust aḥādīth because they're in the interests of men who transmitted them. And you hear that, some women now rejecting aḥādīth online. Number four: the Qurʾān—the only explanation that we accept is through a woman's lived experience, through a female lens, based upon what women see and think, and the emotions and perspectives of women alone. The next step: this was voiced by Amīnah Wadūd. Shaykh ʿUbayd has a response to some of her doubts, but these doubts are being repeated today. This is in a book; it was called Inside the Gender Jihād. She was one of the first that came out with this false notion: the woman can give the khuṭbah on Jumuʿah, and she can lead the prayer on Jumuʿah. She was one of the first. But there was an ideology behind it. You have to understand it. It's deeper than just the Ṣalāh. She has a statement where she said, "the possibility of refuting the text, to talk back, to even say no." So if I come across a text in the Qurʾān, she's saying, "I can say no. Allāh said this, but I don't agree with that." That's kufr, wal-ʿiyādhu billāh. For some, it doesn't end there. Then even the last step—and you hear it as well—they say that Allāh Subḥānahu wa Taʿālā, God, is no longer known as He described Himself in the Qurʾān or as we find in the authentic Sunnah. So they say God, wal-ʿiyādhu billāh, is a "she." We've heard that, right? Why can't God be a "she"? Subḥānallāh. Knowing Allāh, knowing His Names, knowing His Attributes—Islām is based upon the Qurʾān and the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. "There is nothing like Him." Source 🔗

BELIEVING THAT CHURCHES ARE HOUSES OF ALLĀH Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله said: Whoever believes that churches are houses of Allāh, that Allāh is worshipped in them, and that what the Jews and Christians do is worship of Allāh and obedience to Him and His Messenger, or that he loves that or is pleased with it, then he is a kāfir because this includes believing in the validity of their religion, and that is kufr, as mentioned previously. Or if he helps them to open them (i.e., the churches) and establish their religion, and he believes that this is an act of worship or obedience, then he is a kāfir because this includes believing in the validity of their religion. — Kashshāf al-Qināʿ ʿan Matn al-Iqnāʿ 6/170
Ruling on Removing a Kafir/Woman Ruler Question: “You mentioned that if someone who is not qualified to govern Muslims assumes authority, and the Muslims are able to remove him without this resulting in a greater harm, then this is permissible. You gave as examples a ruler who is a disbeliever or a woman. Is this a general principle that also includes a sinful ruler? And if we remove a woman under the condition mentioned—that no greater harm results—would this be considered rebelling against a Muslim ruler?” Answer — Shaykh ʿAbd al-Muḥsin al-ʿAbbād: “A woman is not qualified for authority in the first place. Rather, the Prophet ﷺ said: ‘A people who entrust their affairs to a woman will never prosper.’ However, if a disbeliever seizes authority and it is not possible to rid oneself of him except by causing a greater harm, then he is heard and obeyed in what is good—that is, in matters relating to organization, such as traffic regulations and other administrative matters. But if he orders something contrary to the Sharīʿah, he is not obeyed. Likewise, if a woman seizes authority through force and prevails, she is not qualified for authority. The Muslims have unanimously agreed that she is not qualified for such authority, for many reasons that are unsuitable for a woman. First: the statement of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: ‘A people who entrust their affairs to a woman will never prosper.’ Second: the fact that the imam is the one who leads the people in prayer, whereas a woman does not lead men in prayer. Rather, she stands at the back of the rows, as he ﷺ said: ‘The best rows for men are the first, and the worst are the last; and the best rows for women are the last, and the worst are the first.’ Furthermore, a ruler needs to be alone with whichever people he wishes to meet, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘No man is alone with a woman except that Satan is the third of them.’ Also, a woman requires a maḥram when she wishes to travel. These matters are not among her qualifications for authority. However, just as when it is impossible to remove a disbelieving ruler without causing a greater harm, the people remain under his authority if his harm cannot be removed except through a greater evil, likewise they remain under her authority. But if it is possible to remove the disbelieving ruler without a greater harm resulting from those who seek to remove him, and likewise in the case of the woman, then they may rebel against him or her, because she is not qualified for authority.” — ʿAbd al-Muḥsin al-ʿAbbād, Sharḥ al-Arbaʿīn al-Nawawiyyah (Explanation of al-Nawawī’s Forty Hadith), 15/22.

THE BATTLE OF THE ELEPHANT: WHEN STONES WERE PELTED BY BIRDS AT THE ENEMIES OF ISLĀM Allāh said: Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with the army of the elephant? Did He not cause their evil plans to go awry, and send against them birds in flocks, pelting them with stones of baked clay, and making them like a crop devoured and trampled? — al-Fīl 105:1-5 Shaykh ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Saʿdī رحمه الله explained: That is, have you not seen the might and power of Allāh, His mercy towards His slaves, and the evidence for His oneness and the truthfulness of His Messenger Muḥammad ﷺ, namely the way in which He dealt with the army of the elephant, who plotted against His Sacred House and wanted to destroy it? They equipped themselves for that purpose, and brought with them an elephant to destroy it. They came with a huge army from Ethiopia and Yemen that the Arabs could not withstand. When they reached the vicinity of Makkah, having encountered no resistance from the Arabs and the people of Makkah fled the city, fearing for their lives, Allāh sent against them birds in flocks—that is, in scattered groups, carrying heated stones of baked clay. They pelted the army with those stones and struck them all, from the first to the last of them. They were turned into lifeless bodies and became like a crop devoured and trampled. Allāh dealt with their evil and caused their plot to backfire, and their story is very well known. That was the year in which the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was born, and it became one of the portents and precursors of his mission. Praise and thanks be to Allāh. — Taysīr al-Karīm al-Raḥmān 10/105-106
