In the pursuit of Islamic knowledge, many will prioritize expertise and turn a blind eye to the blatant neuroticism, immaturity, or even spiritual rot exhibited by many practitioners of Islamic knowledge. The damage and pain caused by such individuals often surpass the benefit they bring by several orders of magnitude. There is an understandable desperation exhibited by some fellow Western Muslims due to the paucity of competent teachers; however, some are willing to study with the Devil himself if he were a subject matter expert available for regular classes!
These stories shared by Sheikh Muhammad Ziyad are among the benefits of the Muwatta' recital in Minnesota last weekend. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWW7zCnoWeo
[On Embedded Misogyny] Many vulgar insults in various (non-Muslim and Muslim) cultures are embedded in the notion that intercourse is a humiliating and disgraceful act, not for the active partner, but for the recipient alone. A host of spiritual and psychological pathologies arise from such a predisposition, and pre-modern societies' attitudes toward some vices, such as sodomy and fornication, were subtly shaped by it. A worldview that implicitly considers sex an act of domination and defilement will inevitably normalize the usage of intercourse as a grave insult, and it also risks glorifying heinous crimes, such as rape, as the ultimate form of revenge and conquest. Contrast this milieu's outlook with Islam's leveling of the field, where both participants in fornication and adultery are prescribed equal punishments irrespective of their gender ceteris paribus. Similarly, the slander of a man or a woman in this context, once again irrespective of their gender, yields one standard punishment. Allah knows best. May Allah shield us and distance us all from such vices.
It was from my luck in the latest Muwatta' recital that this beautiful athar, which captures a sincere and private moment of supplication by ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar atop the Ṣafā, happened to be within my allotted reading. It highlights how the Companions cherished Islam as a bounty bestowed upon them by Allah.
The future of ilm in the US is Somali inshAllah.

The Barelvi sampradaya is an amalgamation of different heresies. When someone like Asrar Rashid debates the Twelver Shia, this effectively is an inter-Shi’ite dialogue. As an example, Asrar has a host of weird Shi’ite beliefs about Ahlulbayt, such as the belief that no descendent of Fatima will be admitted into the Hellfire. Such beliefs are rooted in Shi’ite fabrications admitted into the works of some lenient scholars of later generations, only to them be adopted up by ignoramuses proclaiming Sunnism. Keep scratching the surface, and more odd mystical beliefs about Ahlulbayt will begin to surface.

[Challenge] If someone can find me a single authentic account or report from موسى بن جعفر بن محمد (aka Musa Al-Kazem), then I will award them a decent amount of money. This is a serious challenge. I have spent many hours pursuing his traditions on numerous occasions, and I even exhausted my knowledge of Shamela. The key word is: authentic.
It is looking like Mr. عبدول will be winning the upcoming Michigan Democrat primary for the senate seat. On one end, it is good that we are closer to having an additional voice that will counteract the dirty work of the Israel lobby. On the other end, Abdul can be despicable in some ways: he clearly is a practicing Muslim stretching his faith as far as possible to accommodate a progressive platform. It truly would have been easier to vote for him if he were a non-Muslim running on the same ticket. May Allah choose what is best for us all.
Out of the 4 imams, Imam Malik clearly had the most sensitive, particular and antagonistic approach to any practice, whether ritualistic or cultural, that could remotely be construed as an innovation. This outlook of his spanned religion AND culture. On one occasion, he even disliked that a person kisses his father’s hands simply because it was not a mainstream tradition of the Salaf. The extensive list of practices condemned by Malik through such logic often spans practices that a staunch Taymiyyan would not necessarily problematize. Anyone with basic familiarity in Imam Malik’s etiquettes would recognize that there absolutely is no reality where Imam Malik would have approved of groups ritualistically jumping and fidgeting in circles inside a mosque while chanting obscure “adhkar” not uttered by the Prophet, Sahaba or tabi’in. The only way someone could go about rationalizing such innovations while proclaiming adherence to his school is to: (1) discard his substantial legacy on innovations and unprecedented cultural norms, (2) employ some sort of reductionist fallacy to rationalize these innovations.
