#Update On 12 August, reports emerged from Surab, Balochistan that Pakistani aircraft had struck an area, with local sources reporting more than 20 civilian deaths and dozens injured. The initial pro-state explanation was that an ammunition/explosives cache had been hit and that the resulting secondary explosions caused the civilian casualties. Then ISPR gave a fundamentally different account. According to ISPR, there was no airstrike. Instead, a VBIED allegedly detonated prematurely while militants were preparing it. The blast supposedly triggered secondary explosions from explosives stored at the site, killing three civilians. ISPR says 18 militants were ultimately killed. Now look at the evidence coming out of the site. Attached are photographs and video of debris recovered from the reported strike location. The fragment visibly carries aerospace-style manufacturing/serial markings, including “WING ASSEMBLY,” “SERIAL NO.” and “DATE OF MFR.” The geometry and construction are consistent with the type of rear guidance/wing assembly used on Paveway-series guided bombs. A Paveway kit converts a conventional Mk 80-series bomb into a precision-guided weapon. The GBU-12 Paveway II, for example, is a 500-lb Mk 82-based laser-guided bomb. Pakistan does have access to Paveway weapons. Open-source inventories list the Pakistan Air Force as an operator of the GBU-12 Paveway II, alongside the larger GBU-10 Paveway II. Pakistan also operates aircraft capable of carrying these types of precision-guided bombs. This isn't some theoretical capability Pakistan could only obtain in the future. The PAF's F-16 fleet has long been integrated with American air-to-ground weapons, while Pakistan's broader air arsenal includes Paveway-derived and other precision-guided weapons. Publicly available equipment inventories list GBU-10 Paveway II and GBU-12 Paveway II among PAF weapons. So the question is simple. If no aircraft dropped a bomb at Surab, why is debris consistent with an aircraft weapon/guidance assembly present at the alleged blast site? There is an even bigger problem with the official narrative. If the casualties came from secondary explosions at a militant explosives cache, as ISPR says, then there should be physical evidence consistent with that explanation: the vehicle, explosive remnants, fragmentation pattern, crater/ground effects, storage containers and other forensic indicators. If an aerial munition was responsible, investigators should likewise be able to establish that through fragments, impact signatures, crater morphology, remnants and geolocation.
