  • Translation of the Question Question 1: All praise is for Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah's blessings be upon Muhammad ﷺ and upon the family of Muhammad ﷺ. The question is asking how one can balance the continuous pursuit of Islamic knowledge while studying secular subjects at university or managing other obligations in life. The answer is for you to work diligently in balancing between the two and to seek Islamic knowledge in whichever way is possible for you.  There are things that are important and beneficial for a person to be occupied with, such as working or attending school and learning worldly knowledge that will benefit both himself and the Muslims. However, he must also continue seeking Islamic knowledge and should never stop pursuing it. Likewise, a person has responsibilities that he must fulfill. There may be times when he is working a job while also providing for his family or for his parents. Therefore, he must allocate time for his work, his responsibilities, and his seeking of Islamic knowledge.  There may be times when a person is studying a secular science, such as medicine or engineering, or studying subjects through which he hopes to benefit both himself and the Muslims in. While doing so, he should not stop seeking Islamic knowledge. There are examples of men who are doctors and, at the same time, continued to seek Islamic knowledge and even reached a level of specialization in their fields. It may be said that a person is a surgeon or a medical specialist, while at the same time he has completed the memorization of the Qur'an, been granted an ijazah in the ten qira'at, or acquired extensive Islamic knowledge through which he has authored books and benefited others. Thus, it is possible to balance both. One should strive to balance the beneficial secular sciences they are studying with Islamic sciences by allocating dedicated time for each. One should be diligent in doing so, for it is something beneficial and should not claim that they must abandon seeking Islamic knowledge. Rather, kamaal (completeness) lies in continuing to pursue both together. And Allah knows best. If he is able to continue them both, he should continue them together.  May Allah bless you all.
