The intake manifold is off and I didn't even break anything. Although it did take about 10 hours, all in. TGVs and inside of manifold are fucking disgusting. Stinks like varnish. I hate ethanol. Ordered some new injector seals, new gaskets, drilling out TGVs and re-installing hopefully Sunday.

This is a car post. I may have had a project car revelation. I'll likely know by the end of the night. This car hasn't run properly in 10 years. And I assumed this was due to running it with a hastily installed catless downpipe (necessary to correct the massive hole in the stock downpipe) which (presumably) blew up the turbo. Whenever I run the car I get a loud "howling" noise, it has basically zero power and it doesn't make any boost. So presumably, this what was been going on. Blown turbo. I have been sort of rolling with that assumption since I started work on the car in 2024 (mainly addressing body/rust/interior issues). But now the time has come to get the engine running properly. So I started buying parts. Big turbo to replace the bad one. Big intercooler to cool the bigger turbo. Big blow off valve because I'm a retard that likes loud noises. Injectors. Downpipe. Intake. Instrumentation. Manual boost controller. All of it. Some has been purchased, some has not. I'm also getting diagnostic codes for a "TGV fault". TGV referring to tumble generator valves in the intake manifold (some gay and retarded emissions bullshit) so I need to pull these to delete the gay TGVs anyway. Looking at the huge list of shit I still had to buy, I started re-evaluating the plan and decided to just roll with a stock turbo for the meantime. I don't know how, but shopping for a TD04 got me doing some research on deleting the TGVs yesterday morning, and I happened upon a youtube short, the ONE video on the internet that had audio of a failed TGV valve. It was identical to my "bad turbo" noise. So I dove into researching the TGV issue. All of my "bad turbo" symptoms line DIRECTLY up with what exactly would happen with TGVs stuck shut. Combine this with the "howl" and the diagnostic codes... So I'm currently in the process of removing the intake manifold. Once I do this I should be able to delete the TGV butterfly valves, find a way to either break the motors loose or (if nothing else) quiet down the howl, and reassemble everything. I'll be realistic and say that there's a 50/50 chance that I do this and the car starts running as normal (albeit in stock form) again. IF THAT IS THE CASE, and oh lawd I pray it is... I'm going to seal up the air conditioning system with fresh refrigerant, drive it to the DMV tomorrow and register the car for road use, even though the body isn't exactly in perfect condition yet. I can do the big turbo/injectors/intake/all that bullshit at some point. Right now though, I'd be perfectly happy if the thing just ran and drove like it did from 2005-2016 again.
