Anti-platelets prevent platelets from sticking together and forming the initial clot. Commonly used in ACS, after stents, and for stroke prevention. Examples: aspirin, clopidogrel. Anticoagulants act on the coagulation cascade to prevent fibrin clot formation and stop clots from growing. Used in DVT, PE, atrial fibrillation, and mechanical valves. Examples: heparin, enoxaparin, warfarin. Thrombolytics break down already formed clots by dissolving fibrin. Used in emergency situations like STEMI (if no PCI), ischemic stroke within the time window, and massive PE. Examples: alteplase, streptokinase.

Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) is an important support device for cardiac patients with cardiogenic shock, MI, heart failure, post-CABG, or high-risk PCI; it improves coronary perfusion and myocardial oxygen supply while reducing afterload and left ventricular workload, ultimately increasing cardiac output using a balloon inserted via the femoral artery into the descending aorta. It works by inflating during diastole to enhance coronary perfusion and deflating just before systole to decrease afterload, so proper timing and close monitoring are essential
