Explanation: The Genuine OLED display panel has a separate power regulator for Goodix GT9886 touch IC to make fp sensor, touch gesture, etc. work. It can be powered by PM8150 IC's 2.8V power rail by stepping down the voltage to 1.8V using this separate regulator. In the case of an Aftermarket LCD display panel, this power regulator for touch IC is absent in almost all panels. Therefore when I2C tries to read out the existing command written in the touch IC, erase it and write a command to put the display in sleep mode, the touch IC won't respond, the IC is already dead due to power outage since the display is off (When display is on, 2.8V is pulled from PM8150 IC, no issues in working of touch IC, no crash). The I2C will get an error that the touch IC is not responding, it's dead... The kernel starts panicking. Immediately the phone initiates a panic reboot to recovery. Some of the Aftermarket LCD panels have this separate power regulator for touch IC. Those won't have this issue. In the case of Oxygen OS 12.1, when I dumped the kernel device tree files, I came to know that they are exclusively allowing and providing 1.8V to touch IC constantly. Somehow when these oplus devs released the kernel source, they excluded that 1.8V support for touch IC from the device tree. Also they removed lcd.ko kernel module support from the kernel. So no one will be able to use a custom rom with an LCD display panel. Fix: • Build the lcd.ko module from the kernel source. (Commit) • Enable 1.8V supply for touch IC so I2C can read and write commands.
