To what extent do you agree or disagree? Advancements in technology have made photography more accessible than ever before. Nowadays, people can easily take and share photographs using their mobile phones, thereby reducing the need for professional photographers. Although the introduction of smartphones may have diminished the demand for some professional photography services, I believe that professional photography remains highly valuable and continues to be indispensable for specialised and commercially significant work. Technological developments, particularly smartphones, have reduced the need for basic photography services, diminishing the perceived value of professional expertise. Modern phones are equipped with excellent cameras, automatic exposure, AI-powered enhancement tools, and sophisticated editing apps. As a result, these developments have negatively affected the demand for and income of some professional photographers. In the past, events such as birthdays and family gatherings often required the expertise of professional photographers to capture important moments. However, people can now casually take high-quality photographs of everyday events, such as birthdays and holidays. Families may no longer hire a photographer for a casual family gathering when relatives can produce attractive images themselves. On the other hand, however, I am of the opinion that professional photography is far more than simply owning a good camera. Professionals have expertise in composition, lighting, posing, and colour grading, and this expertise enables them to consistently produce a particular aesthetic rather than relying solely on automatic phone settings. Expensive equipment alone does not create a professional photograph; technical knowledge and artistic judgement are equally important. A fitting example would be wedding photography. A wedding photographer must anticipate emotional moments, manage difficult lighting conditions, organise group photographs, and deliver a coherent collection of carefully edited images. These factors highlight the importance of professional expertise and demonstrate that professional photography remains highly valuable. Greater accessibility may actually increase appreciation for professional work. Because people take thousands of photos themselves, they become more aware of the difference between an ordinary snapshot and a professionally produced image. Social media has substantially increased the demand for visually sophisticated content, and businesses and content creators are now increasingly turning to professional photography rather than relying solely on their smartphones. Therefore, smartphones may have changed the nature of professional photography rather than destroyed its value. With the introduction of electricity and lightbulbs, the lives of ordinary people have undoubtedly become easier. Electricity not only brought light to people's lives, but it also revolutionized the way factories operated. With the help of electricity, automation was introduced to ease the labor-intensive tasks that people had previously performed by hand in factories. This not only made the manufacturing process faster but also accelerated the technological revolution. Although previous technological advancements may have been phenomenal, underestimating the influence of recent innovations would be irrational. Advancements in the internet, for instance, have further improved the lives of people. While earlier innovations addressed basic human needs, today's technology has further enhanced convenience and quality of life. Robots are now being integrated into homes to do household chores, which has created more time for people to pursue their creative abilities. Tasks that once required physical presence and commuting can now be completed with just a few clicks on a smartphone. People can now make online payments and access banking and government services from the comfort of their homes. In conclusion, while earlier innovations, such as electricity and automation, met basic human needs and changed the way people lived, recent innovations' contribution to improving living standards is of equal importance.
