🚨MAJOR SOCIAL MEDIA MINIMUM AGE’ BILL UPDATES: Zoe Daniel will introduce amendments to the 'Social Media Minimum Age' legislation today. Her amendments include: 🔴 Laws around transparency of risk mitigation 🔴 Penalties of up to 10% of global revenue 🔴 Civil penalties of the onshore executives (hey Elon Musk) 🔴 User control over the algorithm (Never gonna happen lol) 🔴 Default privacy settings upon account set up The bill returns to the House today for its second reading, amendment considerations, and a likely passing vote by Labor. The impromptu Senate inquiry report is due today, to be tabled after 2pm. There has been speculation on whether the Liberals will still support the bill, following their recent party room meeting. Reports confirm some party room defections, but Peter Dutton should retain majority support needed to pass this legislation. Finally—the Senate is scheduled to vote on the bill tomorrow, 27 November 2024.
