Всем привет, дорогие друзья! ON THE WALL или AGAINST THE WALL? Очень многие изучающие английский путают эти два выражения. Но разница простая. 🚩 Against the wall - прислонён к стене, касается стены, но стоит на полу. Например: Put the ladder against the wall. Поставь лестницу к стене. 🚩 On the wall - на стене, то есть висит или находится на её поверхности. Например: There's a picture on the wall. - На стене висит картина. Запоминаем! Ставим лайки! ❤️

Например:   “Seven million dollars is a lot of money, Mr. Williams” — John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) “Two hours seems an incredibly short time to get a confession out of a man who doesn't speak very good English” — Black and White (2002)   Почему глаголы "is" и "seems" стоят в единственном числе, хотя подлежащие — во множественном? Разбираемся вместе в рубрике Confusing Grammar.   Если количественные выражения обозначают совокупность — например, отрезок времени, сумму денег или протяженность расстояния — они трактуются как единое целое, и глагол используется в форме единственного числа. Сравните:   “Two hours is enough to finish the task.” (Речь идет о двух часах как о едином отрезке времени) “The hours seem to pass slowly.” (Каждый час ощущается отдельно, особенно если говорящий ждет и скучает)   That is all for today!

Hi dear friends,   Представьте: вы смотрите фильм, и герой говорит: “Everyone was there”. А через сцену другой персонаж уточняет: “I spoke to every one of them”. Everyone и every one могут показаться одинаковыми, но значение у них разное. В рубрике “Confusing Grammar” разбираемся, как их не перепутать.   Местоимение everyone можно заменить на everybody. Оба выражения относятся ко всем людям в группе, без акцента на каждом отдельно.   🍕 ”Everyone loves pizza.” Все любят пиццу, и мы не акцентируем внимание на каждом человеке в отдельности.   Когда every one пишется раздельно, акцент – на каждом отдельном элементе группы. Причем это могут быть не только люди, но и предметы, события, поступки – любой набор объектов, которые мы мысленно перебираем по одному.   🧩 “She's your mom and you love her and you can look for an excuse for every one of these things, but I think there's more going on here than just her being a little forgetful” – Desperate Housewives (TV series) Здесь “every one of these things” – это каждый конкретный повод или поступок.   📝 “I've made a lot of mistakes in my life, but you've managed to erase them all because each and every one of them has led me to you” — Scrubs (TV series) В этом случае “every one of them” — “каждая из ошибок”. Подчеркивается, что каждая из них привела героиню к текущей точке. That is all for today!
