📚 CURRENT AFFAIRS | 13 AUGUST 2026 📌 Source : PIB 🔹 UT Ladakh State Award 2025 • Recipient : Dr. Padma Gurmet • Field : Sowa-Rigpa Medicine • Dr. Gurmet is Director of the National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, Leh. • He was honoured for contribution to the preservation, promotion and development of the Sowa-Rigpa system of medicine. 🔹 Indigenous ‘GARUD’ High Resolution Binoculars • Launched by India Optel Limited (IOL) for the civil market. • IOL is a Mini Ratna Category-I Defence PSU under the Department of Defence Production. • GARUD has been developed and manufactured by Ordnance Factory, Dehradun. 🔹 MMDR Amendment Bill, 2026 • The Bill proposes changes to the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957. • Aim : Create a more uniform and balanced fiscal framework for India’s mineral sector. 🔹 India’s Climate Targets • India achieved a 37.38% reduction in emissions intensity of GDP in 2022 compared with the 2005 level. • India’s 2030 NDC target is a 45% reduction. • Non-fossil sources crossed 50% of cumulative installed electricity capacity in June 2025, achieving this NDC target five years early. 🔹 “SNEHA : Stories of Nurturing, Engagement, Happiness & Active Ageing” • An e-book of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment. • It showcases major initiatives and achievements of the Senior Citizen Division from October 2024 to June 2026. 🔹 International Youth Day • International Youth Day is observed annually on 12 August. • A PIB release on 13 August highlighted celebrations involving MY Bharat, NSS and youth organisations with focus on youth leadership, volunteerism and community development. Archana Varma assumed charge as Secretary, Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti. 🔹 BRICS Network University Conference • Organised virtually during India’s BRICS Chairship 2026. • Theme: “Need and Challenges of Preservation of Traditional and Indigenous Knowledge Systems in the Digital Age.” 🔹 New Development Bank Seminar • Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman addressed a seminar in Jaipur. • Theme: “Role of the New Development Bank in Mobilising Private Capital in Member Countries.” 🔹 BHASHINI and NITI Aayog Partnership • Digital India BHASHINI Division and NITI Aayog signed a Statement of Intent. • Aim : Develop multilingual, voice-first AI solutions for inclusive governance and public service delivery. • Initiative : BHASHINI for Seva/Sanchalan. 🔹 Space Vision 2047 • Government highlighted India’s long-term roadmap for expansion of the space sector under Space Vision 2047. • PIB also reported developments related to private participation in Earth Observation satellite constellations and growth of space startups. 🔹 PRAHAAR • Ministry of Home Affairs unveiled PRAHAAR as India’s first comprehensive National Counter Terrorism Policy & Strategy. • It was unveiled on 23 February 2026. • Based on a “whole of government” and “whole of society” approach. 🔹 Census 2027 Preparations • First phase, Houselisting and Housing Census, has been completed in 31 States/UTs. • Remaining States are scheduled to complete Phase I by September 2026. 🔹 Bharat Taxi • India’s cooperative-led digital mobility platform operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited (STCL). • Officially launched in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. • As of 4 August 2026, it had 8.48 lakh registered drivers and 44.27 lakh customers. 🔹 Gramin Gyan Setu App • Launched to digitally interconnect libraries in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency. • The initiative aims to improve access to educational and knowledge resources. 🔹 Vibrant Villages Programme-II • Approved as a Central Sector Scheme. • Total outlay : ₹6,839 crore. • Focus : Development of strategically important villages along India’s international land borders. 🔹 Prime Minister Research Chair (PMRC) Scheme 2026 • Designed to attract distinguished Indian-origin researchers. • Three categories : Research Chair, Senior Fellow and Young Research Fellow. • 7 Lead Institutions identified. • Provision of ₹200 crore for 2026-27. 🔹 PM E-DRIVE Scheme • PIB reported that 88,209 EVs were subsidised in Madhya Pradesh during FY 2025-26 under PM E-DRIVE. 🔹 CyberShakti Programme • Government is strengthening the cybersecurity capabilities of women officials through the CyberShakti initiative. 🔹 World Elephant Day : 12 August • India is home to nearly 60% of the world’s wild Asian elephants. • India’s estimated wild elephant population : 22,446 as per SAIEE 2021-25. 📚 CURRENT AFFAIRS | 11 AUGUST 2026 📌 Source: PIB 🔹 National Conference on Affordable Housing Reforms • Held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. • Theme: “Reimagining Affordable Housing: From Scheme to Sustainable Ecosystem”. • Major focus areas included land reforms, rental housing and housing finance. 🔹 Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel ‘Shruti’ launched • Yard 3037, named Shruti, was launched at GRSE, Kolkata. • The ship has been indigenously designed and built for the Indian Navy. • It will undertake maritime surveillance, search and rescue, HADR, offshore asset protection and anti-piracy missions. • The name Shruti refers to the four Vedas. 🔹 Odisha Rare Earth Corridor • Odisha is one of four States identified for dedicated Rare Earth Corridors under Union Budget 2026-27. • The other States are Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. • Corridors will focus on mining, processing, research and manufacturing. • Marine biotechnology and space capabilities were also highlighted as major areas for science-led growth. 🔹 ICMR-SHINE 2026 • Full form: Science and Health Innovation for NextGen Explorers. • Second edition being held on 11 and 12 August 2026 across 83 locations. • Around 30,000 school students will experience health research and interact with scientists. • Organised by DHR and ICMR. 🔹 Anemia Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan: 7×7×7 Framework • New Operational Guidelines introduced a 7×7×7 strategy, replacing the earlier 6×6×6 strategy. • Focus includes testing, treatment, tracking and dietary diversification. • The framework moves from the T3 approach: Test, Treat, Talk to the T4 approach: Test, Treat, Talk and Track. 🔹 National Green Hydrogen Mission • Government is promoting Green Hydrogen use in the petroleum and refining sector. • Under SIGHT Mode 2B, Green Hydrogen production capacity of 30 KTPA has been awarded for refineries. • Mission aims to make India a global hub for production, use and export of Green Hydrogen and its derivatives. 🔹 PM Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana (PM-MKSSY) • Central Sector sub-scheme under PM Matsya Sampada Yojana. • Implementation period: FY 2023-24 to FY 2026-27. • Estimated outlay: ₹6,000 crore. • National Fisheries Digital Platform has been launched under the scheme to formalise the fisheries sector. 🔹 National Scholarship Portal for Agriculture Students • Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the initiative for agriculture students. • Scholarships and fellowships worth ₹21.35 crore were transferred through DBT to more than 6,000 students. 🔹 India-Bangladesh Railway Cooperation • Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala, is set to roll out the first rake of LHB coaches for Bangladesh Railway. 🔹 Bharat GI Initiative • Ministry of MSME and DPIIT signed an MoU to increase commercialisation and global market access of Indian Geographical Indication products. • ‘Bharat GI’ banner was launched to bring regional GI products onto ONDC and GeM. 🔹 MSME Development Amendment Bill, 2026 • The Bill updates the MSMED Act, 2006. • It focuses on faster resolution of delayed payment disputes, simpler compliance and Ease of Doing Business for MSMEs. 🔹 “Triumph of the Indian Republic: My Life, My Struggles” • Autobiography of former President Ram Nath Kovind. • He served as the 14th President of India. • The book was scheduled to be released by the Prime Minister on 12 August 2026 at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
