🖼 The Life and Death of the Human Soul of Design by Pann Lim 🗓 Till 16 Aug 📍Basheer Graphic Books Lim’s exhibition is a thought-provoking exploration of what it means to be a creative in the age of artificial intelligence. Why be a designer when AI can generate artwork within seconds? Why even study design at all any more? These are some of the uncomfortable questions Lim confronts and tries to answer in his exhibition, using evidence from his postgraduate research. The exhibition accompanies Lim’s latest publication of the same name, which examines our lives in an increasingly automated world. But rather than simply positioning AI as creatives’ arch-nemesis, Lim wants to challenge the audience to rethink what makes a human design truly irreplaceable. More here

⛵️FUCHUAN & SINGAPORE: VOYAGES THAT SHAPED A NATION 福船与新加坡的故事  🗓 Till Sept 📍Raffles Marina near Lighthouse Experience Fu Ning Boat—An Intangible Cultural Heritage Masterpiece    Fuchuan & Singapore: Voyages that Shaped a Nation is a heritage experience centred on Fu Ning, one of the world’s largest traditional wooden sailing vessels and a living representation of UNESCO-recognised shipbuilding craftsmanship. The exhibition traces the journeys of early Chinese migrants who travelled across the seas on vessels like the Fuchuan, shaping the foundations of modern Singapore. Through artefacts and showcase of traditional craftsmanship, it brings to life the human stories, maritime heritage, and cultural exchanges that defined these voyages. Positioned at the intersection of history, culture, and design, the experience offers visitors a meaningful connection to Singapore’s origins—told through the lens of the sea and the enduring legacy of the Fuchuan. 🖼 The Quiet Revolutionary: Chua Ek Kay  🗓 Till 23 Aug 📍Confluence Art Space Fifty-one works by Cultural Medallion artist Chua Ek Kay (1947–2008), spanning three decades from his earliest street scenes to the late abstractions. Chua trained in Chinese ink under pioneer artist Fan Chang Tien from 1975 to 1985, then spent thirty years expanding what the medium could hold — abstraction, colour, Western composition — without letting go of the stillness at its centre. The exhibition includes the fourth known painting from his 1992 Yellow Door series; two of the four are held by National Gallery. The centrepiece is Peace by the Pond (2003), a semi-abstract lotus extending over 2.5 metres. Also on view: My Haunt, winner of the 1991 UOB Painting of the Year, and both his City Hall paintings from 1996 and 1997 — made years before the building became the National Gallery. More here

📚 Singapore Art Book Fair 🗓 28-30 Aug 📍T:>Works The Singapore Art Book Fair (SGABF) is an annual multi-day event celebrating contemporary art books and zines. Founded in 2013, it is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia and has now established itself as one of the leading art book fairs in Asia. Each edition showcases the innovative approaches of exhibitors from Singapore and around the world, including artists, designers, distributors, small presses, institutions, galleries, zinemakers, and printmakers.  This year, we're partnering with Atelier HOKO who will be joining us as Creative Directors of SGABF2026 to imagine something more intimate: a smaller, more permeable gathering where the book is not a boundary but an opening. 🎪 Singapore Night Festival 🗓 21 Aug - 5 Sep 📍Various locations The 17th edition of SG's largest nocturnal experience, Themed Myths and Legends, SNF 2026 invites audiences to rediscover the stories, folklore and traditions that have shaped communities in Singapore and across Southeast Asia. This year, new Museum Zone, centred around National Museum, the Children’s Museum and surrounding heritage spaces, in addition to Zones 1 to 3. Across 3 weekends, audiences explore wider BBB precinct through robust line-up of projection mapping, artworks, experiential programmes, performances and festival villages with food and retail offerings, with each zone offering a distinct perspective on the stories of BBB. 🎪 National Day Celebrations 🗓 9 Aug 📍National Museum Celebrate SG’s 61st birthday and rediscover the Myths, Legends & the Stories That Made Us. Journey through founding legends, explore the rich tapestry of cultures that call this island home, and celebrate our shared living traditions through immersive storytelling, workshops, performances, and family-friendly activities from 1 August. Now in its fourth edition, the Migrant Workers Photography Festival makes its way to the museum for the first time. 🖼 Romanticisation of the Tropics Batik Paintings by Chuah Thean Teng, Choo Keng Kwang and Seah Kim Joo 🗓 4-19 July 📍artcommune gallery An exhibition curated by Yang Jye Ru that examines the development of batik painting as a modern art form in Singapore and Malaysia. Drawn from special private collections, the show features the works of Chuah Thean Teng (b. 1914, Fujian, China - d. 2008, Penang, Malaysia), Choo Keng Kwang (b.1931, Singapore - d.2019, Singapore) and Seah Kim Joo (b. 1939, Singapore), who were amongst the most prominent artists working on batik painting between the 1950s and 1970s. Through their works, the show considers how batik became embedded in the formation of a regional visual culture, shaped by the intersecting forces of post-colonial nation-building, cultural policy and the tourism economy during the 1960s and 1970s. 🖼  ‘Adventures of Grumpy Cat’ by Yip Yew Chong 🗓 Till 30 Aug 📍East Garden Gallery, The Fullerton Hotel Singapore Artist Yip Yew Chong returns with his most playful exhibition to date, showcasing 30 original paintings centred on the beloved feline whose signature grumpy expression charmingly belies its curious, light-hearted personality. Visitors can also pose for photos with Grumpy Cat at interactive installations throughout the East Garden Gallery, including the ‘Grumpitiam’, inspired by Singapore’s beloved coffee shops and featuring familiar favourites such as kopi, kaya toast and chicken rice. 🖼  Through Rain and Night by Chen Shi Jin 🗓 Till 7 July 📍Chen Shi Jin Gallery Singaporean artist Chen Shi Jin returns with his first solo exhibition in over two decades, exploring moonlit and rain-soaked landscapes in traditional Chinese ink. Journey through scenes of tranquillity and quiet reflection across South-East Asia — fishing ports glowing with lantern light, kampungs under the moon, and rainforests in a thunderstorm. Whether or not you’re familiar with Chinese ink painting, the exhibition offers a welcoming space to rediscover and appreciate regional scenes that are dear to us. 🖼 When Things Flow Softly 🗓 Till 18 July   📍Mulan Gallery Clay does not hold still. It shifts, yields, and remembers — carrying within it the pressure of the hand, the memory of water, the silence between one form and the next. When Things Flow Softly is an invitation to dwell in that interval: to encounter two ceramic practices that speak not of arrival, but of passage. Duo exhibition featuring artists Daisy Toh and Karrisan Chua, each returning from formative years abroad — Daisy from Taiwan, karrisan from the United Kingdom — bearing the quiet marks of distance and return. Together, they trace a shared meridian — between sculpture and function, tradition and rupture, stillness and becoming. What unfolds is not a conversation of likeness, but of resonance: two distinct voices sounding across the same vessel. More here

🖼 STPI Annual Special Exhibition | Zarina: Directions to My House 🗓 Till 1 Aug 📍STPI Landmark solo exhibition of Zarina, one of the most significant printmakers of the late 20th and early 21st centuries and a key figure in minimalist and diasporic practice. Curated by New York-based Sarah Burney, independent curator and Zarina’s former studio manager, Directions to My House offers a deeply informed perspective on the artist’s life and work. This major exhibition brings together over 50 works from 12 lenders across multiple cities, presenting her practice at a scale not previously seen in Southeast Asia and reflecting her life that was profoundly shaped by numerous continents – having lived across Bangkok, New Delhi, Paris, Bonn, Tokyo, Santa Cruz, and finally New York. “Home is the center of my universe; I make a home wherever I am.
