💥PART ONE: 💥 TODAY WAS MUSICAL CHRISTMAS FOR DA WOLF!! I had already called ahead to each place I wanted to go "hunting" this morning, so they already knew what I wanted to find and purchase. For about 30yrs, I've had my Ibanez SNDGR, "Gollum"... He's my main squeeze, weighing in at around 10lbs, and doin' 4hr shows w/ that slung over your shoulder, takes its toll on the back. I finally bit the bullet, and started shopping for lighter 5 strings. I found the Ibanez Workshop EHB1505MS, which is 7.2lbs. They had a used one at Guitar Center in Rockville, MD, and it was EXACTLY the style & color I was wanting. I tried it, fell in love with it, but wasn't pulling the trigger until I at least tried the 8lb Steinberger XR25 Spirit. Guitar Center didn't have 1 to try, but Chuck Levins in Wheaton, MD did. I told Guitar Center to pull the EHB1505MS off the floor, as I was 99.9% sure I was coming back to pick it up, which they did, and put it behind the counter. We got to Chuck Levins, they went and grabbed one right outta the box. I tried it, & I HATED IT. It was brand new, but it wasn't my style, feel, or playability. (I know it wasn't "set up", yada yada, but it wouldn't have made a difference. (For something so many people rave about, I'd love to know EXACTLY what it is they love, because other than the weight issue, I found it to be way less than what I was looking for in playability and tone.) I was also looking for a 5 string acoustic bass, but the only 1 I found at that point was the Michael Kelly Dragonfly, which I already have, but it's only a pretty piece of wall art due to non-fixable severe neck warping. It's from the manufacturer, (nothing I had done wrong.) I was never able to really enjoy playing it due to the inability to lower the action,, leaving the strings damned near a 1/2 inch, (NOT KIDDING), off of the neck. ANYWAY... Dana, the Chuck Levins rep, used to work for Sam Ash in NY, and we quickly spoke about some of the best options for a 5 string acoustic. He mentioned the Warwick Alien 5 string, which I'd seen online. I gave him my name and number just in case any came into the store, I could come try it out. We went back to Guitar Center in Rockville. I went straight to the counter, snagged the EHB1505MS. Problem: NO HARD CASE. (MRB250C). So, they gave me an Ibanez soft case. (Since it was used, the Ibanez warranty was void). I also opted for the 3yr REPAIR or RETURN warranty, which allows me to bring the bass in for any reason to have things repaired, and if they can't repair it, I would get the purchase price I paid towards another bass.) I figured it was worth it, so I snagged it. Off we went to Atomic Music in College Park, MD to continue the acoustic 5 hunt. No bueno - nothing there... We headed to Bill's Music in Catonsville, MD... Went over to the acoustics section, and saw some pretty tasty toiz. However, my eyes went left and up on the wall: I legit hear the mental choir scream-singing, "AAAAHHHHH!", (in my head), as I saw the flat black Ovation Pro Series Elite 4 string. I just HAD to try it out; worst case scenario? I just rock the B-E-A-D tuning instead of the regular E-A-D-G tuning, no biggy. I played it for 2 mins, and my mind was made up. It was coming home w/ me. I've always wanted an Ovation 12 string, have NEVER tried 1 of their basses... This was 100% an UNEXPECTED AWESOME FIND! It's only a year old, and 1 owner; much like the Ibanez, (go figure, right? LOL) Not a mark on it, perfectly pristine. So I had him toss on a pack of new strings & polish it, whilst I grabbed a new wide-braided leather strap, gold Schaller strap locks, and a new BADLY needed can of Fast Fret. It came w/ the soft gig bag, which is fine for the trip home, but he needs a REAL case: (Ovation MC4), which I don't think they make any longer. So I have an email into Ovation to get the correct HARDSHELL case model ordered. I also sent an email to Sweetwater in regard to the MRB350C case for the Ibanez. Both boys are now home, and the sound on each thru my Ampeg cab is WAY better than either were in the stores!

The babies are HOME! Ovation B778TX-5-G Pro Series Elite TX and the Ibanez EHB1505MS OH so stinkin' happy! I wanted to go see "Acid Wash" (80s rock), tonight at Fish Head Cantina in Arbutus MD, but I'm done driving haha 🇺🇸🤘🐺🤘🇺🇸

Never even had THIS ONE on my radar... Went to Atomic Music in College Park MD, but they didn't have anything... Came up to Bill's Music in Catonsville MD, walked in, not many 5s on the wall, but I saw the OVATION 4 string and HAD to try it.... It's MINEZES! It's not a 5string, but I have YET to find an acoustic 5 string w/ the action I'm wanting, and I can always just go w/ the BEAD tuning instead of the EADG. WOOHOO 🎉 #SOTHANKFUL!!! This was SERIOUSLY a HUGE surprise! The playability is SIIIICK!! Grabbed the Schaller strap locks, a new strap, they put new set of D'Addario strings on it, and gave me a can of Fast Fret on the house! Free adjustments.for the 1st 30days in case I find any issues, which it's brand spankin' new, so I don't foresee any issues. I'mma happy W0LF1E! NOW... Time to find some chow... So... Today is CATURDAY CHRISTMAS!! Came to Guitar Center in Rockville MD to try this Ibanez Workshop 1505, and it's INSAAAANE!!!! I told them to pull it off the floor, (they only had the 1 and I pretty much made up my mind immediately it was coming home with me), I had to goto Chuck Levins in Wheaton MD to try out the Steinberger XT 25 SPIRIT 5 string 1st to make the decision... The XT25 was NOT what I was looking for at all, but they're still gunna hunt down a Warwick Alien 5 string acoustic bass for me to try out... I came back to Guitar Center, played the 1505 again, and YUP! IT'S NOW MIIINEEZZZ!!! It was used, no scratches, no corrosion in the mechanics, freakin' GORGEOUS! Since it's used, the Ibanez warranty is voided. However, they offer a 3yr FULL REPAIR or REPLACEMENT warranty... Anything happens, they fix it, and if it can't be, they will give me full purchase price toward another bass.... Hard to find that anymore, so I jumped on it. NOW... Off to a few more stores to try out acoustic 5 strings...
