[THE DEATH & ITS CONNECTION BTW BEING SUCCESSFUL & UNSUCCESSFUL] The relationship between this #world and the next and between the #soul and the #body is of this very nature. To those who have this outlook on the world but who fail in practical #life because of their #lethargy and #malpractices the idea of death naturally appears to be dreadful and terrible. In fact, they are afraid of #death because they fear the #consequences of their own deeds. But the #attitude of those who are #successful in their practical life is naturally that of the #student who has paid his whole-hearted attention to his studies and of the #farmer who has worked hard. Such a student and such a farmer yearns for his return to home but does not think of leaving his task incomplete. The #saints are like the successful students. They long for death which means going into the next world. Every moment they impatiently wait for it. Imam Ali (a.s) has said about them, "If Allah had not fixed the time of death their souls would not have remained in their bodies for a moment because of their desire for recompense and fear of retribution". At the same time they do not run after death, for they know that it is only this life which gives them an #opportunity to work and attain #spiritual development. They know that the longer they live, the greater will be #perfection they will achieve. Hence they resist. Thus, we know that it is not contradictory that the holy persons on the one hand considers death to be #desirable and on the other hand resist it and pray for a long life. Addressing the Jews who claimed to be the friends of Allah, the holy Qur'an says: If you are friends of Allah (as you claim to be) then wish for death. (Surah al-Jum ah, 62:6). PROPHETS ROLE TO GUIDE TOWARDS PERFECTION Naturally the #mission of the #prophets, too, is believed unanimously to facilitate man's #perfection and to aid him to remove the #deficiencies which neither he, as an individual, nor his society is able to remove. It is only with the aid of their #divine #revelations that he can advance towards enhancing perfection. Shaheed Mutahari Goal of Life http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari
PROPHET MUHAMMAD (PBUH) - THE GREAT CHARACTER The Holy Prophet (PBUH) #hated the grandeurs and majesty so much that his whole life is full of such events. If he wanted to walk somewhere, if some people wanted to move behind him, he would not allow it. If he was riding and a pedestrian wanted to come with him, he would have said, brother! You have to choose one of these things: either you go ahead and I will come behind you, or I will go and you come next. Or sometimes, if it was possible for two people to ride, he would say: let's ride together. Should I ride while you walk?! Such a thing I don't like. It was impossible that he allows to move on horseback and a person on foot. When he was sitting in the gathering, he would say sit in the shape of a ring so that our gathering does not have a top or a bottom. If I sit at the top of the gathering and you are there, you will be part of my showing of glory and pomp, and I don't want that. The Prophet (pbuh) did not violate this #principle until he was alive. [THE SPIRITUAL LEVEL OF COMPANIONS OF PROPHET (PBUH)] There is another narration about the Prophet's companions, which says: "The Prophet went one day to visit the companions at Safa according to his habit. It was between dawn and sunrise. He saw a young man staggering along, his eyes sunk in their socket, and looking very pale. The Prophet asked him: "How did you begin your morning?" He answered: "I have begun it with certainty," meaning what "You have told us through the tongue and ear, I have found it through insight". The Prophet said: "There is a sign for everything. What is the sign of your certainty?" He answered: "Its sign is that it keeps me thirsty in daytime and sleepless at night." meaning his certainty does not allow him to break his fast or to sleep, The Prophet said: "This is not enough. I want further signs." He answered: " Now that I am in this world I have a vision of the next world and I hear the voices of those who are in both heaven and hell. Let me name those of your followers who are in heaven and those in hell. Then, the Prophet asked him: "What is your wish?" He answered: Martyrdom in the way of God." Thus, this man is a true #Muslim with that wish and in the way he spends his days and nights. It is his feeling for God that has produced his other feeling of #pain. The Qur'an says: "O you who believe! Seek assistance through patience and prayer; surely Allah is with the patient." (Sura al-Baqarah, 2: 153). A NEW UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY In the past, the level of people's thoughts was low and so there were fewer #doubts and questions among the people. Today, more are to be found. It is only natural that when the level of thought increases, #questions will arise that were not brought up before. The doubts must be resolved and answers given to such questions and reasonable demands. We cannot say to someone that he should return back to the level of common understanding; rather, this is a good opportunity to familiarize people with the #truth and with Islamic teachings, as it is not possible to discuss the truth with an #ignorant person. Therefore, in guiding the older generation, whose level of thought was lower, we needed a particular form of propagation and expression, and a particular format for books. However, today, that mode of expression and those kinds of books are useless. A profound #reform is necessary in these fields; we must familiarise ourselves with contemporary #logic, language, and thought and guide the people through these means. [REVOLUTION WITHIN HEART & MIND ARE DIFFERENT] I have already mentioned that sometimes one half of a person #rebels against the other half and this rebellion may be by the lower side of a person such as his #lust, #anger or devilry or by his higher side like his #intellect, #conscience, his true nature and his depth of #heart. Those who have suffered #sexual deprivations in the name of #worship and virtue suddenly turn into #libertines and make #rebels of themselves. But a revolution which is started by a #belief in #God by recognizing the higher side of the human being, is #holy and accompanied by #reform. FOR GOD'S SAKE - ALL ACTION ARE WORSHIP Learning, acquisition of knowledge and livelihood and social service, if performed for God's sake, are acts of #worship. Shaheed Mutahari The Glimpses of Nahj al Balaghah Part III - Suluk and 'Ibadah http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari
IMPACT OF REMEMBRANCE OF GOD The remembrance of #God, which is the aim of #worship, is burnishing of the #heart and an agency of its #purification. It prepares the heart for the reflection of #Divine Light in it. Shaheed Mutahari The Glimpses of Nahj al Balaghah Part III - Suluk and 'Ibadah http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari
A FRIENDSHIP or ENMITY which arises solely from the #Feelings has no #logic; it is sentimental, blind and deaf, and it dominates the human #heart, it tugs in any direction it wishes. Shaheed Mutahari Wilayah the station of Master, p 26 http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari
MARTYR'S PROXIMITY All those who have served #humanity in one way or the other, whether as scholars, philosophers, inventors or teachers, deserve the #gratitude of mankind. But no one deserves it to the extent the #martyrs do and that is why all sections of the people have a sentimental attachment to them. The reason is that all other servants of humanity are #indebted to the martyrs; whereas the martyrs are not indebted to any of them or are indebted to a very small degree. A scholar, a philosopher, an inventor and a teacher require a congenial and conducive atmosphere to render their services and it is the martyr who with his supreme #sacrifice provides that atmosphere. LOGIC OF THE MARTYR VS THE POLITICIANS When Imam #Husayn (a.s) decided to leave for Kufah, some prudent members of his family tried to dissuade him. Their argument was that his action was not logical. They were right in their own way. His decision was not in conformity with their #logic which was the logic of wordly-wise men. But Imam Husayn had a higher logic. His logic was that of a #martyr which is beyond the comprehension of ordinary people. Abdullah ibn Abbas was not small person. Muhammad ibn Hanafiyah was also not an ordinary man. But their logic was based on the consideration of personal interests and #political gains. A martyr's logic is novel and unique. It is beyond the comprehension of ordinary people. Shaheed Mutahari The Martyr, p 44 - 45 http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari
#MARTYRDOM is the death of a person who in spite of being fully conscious of the risks involved, willingly faces them for the sake of a sacred cause or as the holy Qur'an says, (fi sabil Allah), in the cause of Allah. Shaheed Mutahari The Martyr http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari
MARTYR'S BLOOD Every drop of #blood is turned into hundreds and thousands of drops, nay into tons of blood and is transfused into the body of his #society. It is the #martyr who infuses such fresh blood into the veins of such a society. A martyr often sacrifices his life to create fervour, to enlighten the society, to revive it and to infuse fresh blood into its body. The Radiance in the Faces of Night Worshippers Imam Sajjad (as) was asked: "Why do those who pray at night have the most beautiful faces among people?" It’s clear that "most beautiful faces" does not refer to physical features (like eyes or brows), but rather to a luminous, captivating, and heartwarming countenance. The Imam replied: "Because they secluded themselves with Allah, so Allah clothed them with His light." The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: "Two Rak'ahs prayed in the depths of the night are dearer to me than the entire world and all it contains." WEEPING FOR MARTYRS A #martyr creates the spirit of #valour and #weeping for him means participation in his valour, #harmony with his spirit and conformity with his longing for #martyrdom. Shaheed Mutahari The Martyr, p 47 http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari

THE SINCERITY OF LADY ZAINAB (A.S) One of the other young men who was martyred in Karbala and whose mother was present was Awn ibn Abdullah ibn Ja'far – the son of Lady #Zainab Kubra (peace be upon her). That is, Zainab (AS) witnessed the martyrdom of her noble son. Abdullah ibn Ja'far, the husband of Zainab, had two sons in Karbala – one from Zainab (AS) and the other from another wife – and both were martyred. Thus, the son of Zainab (AS) was also martyred in Karbala. One of the remarkable things that demonstrates the extraordinarily elevated #upbringing of this noble lady is that no historical account (Maqtal) has recorded that Zainab (AS) ever mentioned her son's name – either before or after his martyrdom. It is as if she felt that mentioning his name would be a form of discourtesy – as if to say: "O Aba Abdillah! My son is not worthy to be sacrificed for you." For example, at the martyrdom of Ali Akbar(s') Zainab (AS) rushed out of the tent and cried out: "O my brother! O son of my brother!" – and her cry filled the entire space. However, no historical source has recorded that she did anything of the sort at the martyrdom of her own son. Shaheed Motahhari, Spiritual discourse, p. 192 http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari
[WHO IS MASTER (MAWLA)?] Who is a master? He is one who liberates you. And removes the fetters from your legs. This is really true whether the Prophet's remark, "Whoever has me as his master has Ali as his master," would have the same meaning or not, that is, whether he used the word master to mean that he and Ali were liberators or not. The fact remains that every rightful #Prophet is sent to liberate people and every rightful Imam possesses the same quality. [THE UNIQUE LEADERSHIP OF IMAM HUSSAIN (A S)] [Imam Hussain (a.s):] You have pledged your allegiance to me. Now I release you from your #commitment. You are under no obligation to stay here. You are compelled by no friend or foe. You are absolutely #free. Whosoever wants to go may go. Then addressing his companions, he said: "Let each one of you take hold of the hand of one of my kinsmen, and leave." The members of Imam Husayn's family included both adults and minors. Moreover, they were all strangers there. The Imam did not want them all to leave together. So he asked each of his companions to hold the hand of each one of them and leave the #battlefield. This incident throws light on the high character of Imam Husayn's companions. They were under no #compulsion from any side. The enemy was not concerned with them. The Imam had set them free from their #obligation. In these circumstances, the heart warming reply that each of the #companions and relatives of the Imam gave was #remarkable. THE MESSAGE OF DIGNITY That is, living in #indignity in the doldrums of #injustice and #repression, and barely surviving is not the type of life a #free man would want to live. Shaheed Mutahari, The Truth About Al-Hussain’s Revolt http://Telegram.me/Shaheed_Mutahari
