The interesting companies are those where Q1 FY27 could signal a structural change in the earnings trajectory: → capacity ramp-up → utilisation improvement → operating leverage → new business contribution → order-book execution → margin expansion → better business mix → structural industry capex Comments the name you find missing but have given very good results.

  • Universal cables - Blockbuster Q1FY27 results When people talk about cable & wire companies, the names that come up are usually Polycab, KEI, R R Kabel or Apar. Universal Cables (MP Birla Group) is not mentioned much, but they delivered a knockout set of numbers and the future looks promising as well. Revenue at ₹945 crore, up 57.5% YoY. EBITDA ₹94.6 crore, PBT jumped 67% to ₹45.9 crore PAT nearly doubled — up 90.6% YoY to ₹37.2 crore. Exports, up 187% YoY to ₹120 crore, now 12.7% of revenue. Order book stands at ₹2,860 crore as of July 1, including ₹485 crore of export orders, with another ₹390 crore in the export pipeline. Management has guided for 25%+ revenue growth for FY27 (I feel this is super conservative) Capex: the ongoing MV/HV capacity expansion at Satna increased from ₹550 crore to ₹617 crore, funded via a mix of debt and internal accruals. Also, a separate ₹74 crore EHV facility modernization already underway. (Please note Universal is the only EHV manufacturer in India along with KEI, Polycab' EHV capacity is going to come online). There is minor slippage versus original timelines, now pushed to Aug/Sep 2026. So needs monitoring Most interesting development- Birla Furukawa Fibre Optics — UCL's JV with Furukawa Electric, Japan — is expanding optical fibre capacity nearly 3x, alongside a new upstream "Preform" manufacturing facility, riding the AI/hyperscale-data-centre-driven surge in fibre demand. Please note that Furukawa is a competitor to Sterlite Tech and HFCL in the global optical fiber space. Total outlay: ~USD 500 million, roughly ₹4,800 crore, to be funded entirely at the JV level (mix of accrual, equity, debt), targeted for completion by December 2028. UCL's own stake here is a minority one, around 26%. So, please keep that in mind ....................... This is not an investment advise. Please do your own due diligence before investing.
