Singh, a former hospital nurse from Innisfail, fled to India the day after Cordingley’s body was found and was not seen again until his arrest in New Delhi in November 2022, after a $1 million reward was offered for information leading to his location. The retrial began on 10 November 2025 and lasted four weeks, with over 80 witnesses called to testify; the jury visited the crime scene during the trial. Singh had pleaded not guilty throughout the proceedings, and during the trial, he reportedly told an undercover officer he had witnessed the attack and fled in fear.
