Grameen Gyan Setu (GGS) – Short Notes Grameen Gyan Setu (GGS) is a technology-enabled book delivery and library networking initiative designed to improve access to library resources for rural students in Gujarat. Key Facts ➨ Full Name: Grameen Gyan Setu (GGS) ➨ Developed By: INFLIBNET Centre in collaboration with the Government of Gujarat ➨ Launched: 12 August 2026 – National Librarian’s Day ➨ Initial Network: 40 rural school libraries ➨ Feeder Libraries: 4 libraries in Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad and surrounding areas ➨ Delivery System: 4 designated vans operating on fixed routes and schedules ➨ Technology: GGS App ➨ Main Purpose: Democratise access to knowledge and library resources How GGS Works Students in rural schools can use the GGS app to search for books and place requests from their villages. The requested books are collected from feeder libraries and delivered to rural school libraries through designated delivery vans. After use, books are collected and returned to the respective libraries. Example A student in a rural Gujarat school needs a book that is unavailable in the local school library. Through the GGS app, the student can search for the book and request it. The feeder library arranges the book, and a designated van delivers it to the student’s school library. Significance for Library Science GGS demonstrates how library networking, mobile technology, resource sharing and logistics can be combined to overcome geographical barriers and provide equitable access to information resources. Quick Revision Points ➨ GGS = Grameen Gyan Setu ➨ Focus = Rural students and school libraries ➨ Developed by = INFLIBNET + Gujarat Government ➨ Launched = 12 August 2026 ➨ Rural Libraries = 40 ➨ Feeder Libraries = 4 ➨ Delivery Vans = 4 ➨ Main Concept = Book delivery through library resource sharing ➨ Objective = Equitable and democratised access to knowledge Created by Saket Sharma
