Brain and finger paralysis is what you get when you spend half a day trying to figure out a new crochet pattern while listening to Shelly Kagan’s Yale lectures on death. ​I loved episodes 24–26, where he breaks down suicide, separating the cold rationality of it from the complex morality. ​Also, who said crocheting is a cute hobby? If you're looking to throw your emotional stability out the window and experience a full emotional collapse, the pediatrics ward is 100/10 kemr! You watch your own soul crumble. Seeing those kids just makes you question everything. And, just to make things worse, the universe does you the favor of slowing time itself, so half a day feels like eternity. Such a heavy day! Now let's go do something that brings a little softness back into my life.

​I love how literature can create a memory for you that isn't even yours. ​I’ve never sat through a traditional coffee ceremony. I’ve never sat around in a room with aunties and neighbors, passing the time, playfully gossiping over the smell of ዕጣን and crunching ቆሎ, or reacting to all the small, chaotic household drama. ​But reading Hiwot Emshaw fills that exact space for me. After a deep dive into heavier literature, picking up her work is an instant palate cleanser. It’s dynamic and emotionally fluid she captures የእለት ተእለት ኑሮን, the micro moments, the side eyes... Her characters are an easy read, but they carry an unpolished touch of reality that makes them feel undeniably alive and human. ​She hands me a seat at a table I’ve never sat at before. She gives off that vibe of an auntie you never had, but always wished you did. ​Having already read ባርቾ, ማታ ማታ, ለእርቃን ሩብ ጉዳይ, and ፍቅፋቂ, I just bought ዥዋዥዌ! ​Ready to step back into that room again.📚☕️
