NURSES GUIDE TO CHARTING BLOOD TRANSFUSION AND TRANSFUSION REACTIONS 🩸 Blood transfusions save lives, but one missed timestamp on the chart can cost a nurse everything. When a transfusion reaction happens, your documentation is the first thing anyone looks at. Did you catch the symptom early? Did you notify the physician on time? Did you chart it as it happened, or did you block chart and leave gaps a lawyer could walk through? In our latest guide, we break down exactly what to document: ✅ Before you even hang the bag (consent, verification, baseline vitals) ✅ During the transfusion (vital sign timing that actually protects you) ✅ The moment a reaction starts (step-by-step response + sample charting) ✅ Delayed reactions that show up days later ✅ Why block charting is one of the riskiest habits in nursing notes Real sample nursing notes included, the kind you can actually use as a reference on shift. 📖 Read the full guide: https://africannurses.com/nursing-clinical-skill/blood-transfusion-documentation-guide/ Share to a nurse who needs to see this before their next transfusion shift.

1. Allow yourself to be used. 2. The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. 3. Learn a skill that you can deploy, and be paid for without needing permission from an institution. 4. Don't consume too much of public content, it's potency is not enough to liberate you. And the breakthrough you're looking for is not always in another free webinar. Pay for access. 5. The quality of your life will always be determined by the quality of your relationships and Environment, tend to them like the investment they are. 6. As much as you have a drive for impact, it is not sustainable without profit. 7. Find your anchor early the value, the belief, the conviction that holds you when everything shifts. 8. You will not go as far alone as you will go surrounded by people who are genuinely invested in a shared vision. 9. You will need the courage to be disliked. Your purpose is too important to be held hostage by someone else's opinion. 10. Not everyone who opens a door for you is supposed to walk through it with you. Learn to recognise a gatekeeper and honour them accordingly. 11. You will not always feel ready, heavy lies the head that wears the crown they say.

If you're a nursing student and you don't want to be job hunting after school, here are 5 things you should do now: 1. Get Relevant Certifications Don't wait until graduation. Take courses in BLS, First Aid, Infection Prevention & Control, Digital Health, Research, Data Analysis, and AI. Employers love graduates who can do more than the basics. 2. Build Your Network Before You Need It Attend conferences, webinars, and nursing events. Connect with nurses, educators, and healthcare leaders on LinkedIn. Opportunities often come through people before they come through applications. 3. Develop a Skill Outside Clinical Practice Learn social media management, virtual assistance, public speaking, graphic design, writing, or project management. Multiple income streams are no longer a luxury, they're a necessity. 4. Create a Professional Presence Online Optimize your LinkedIn profile. Share what you're learning, your volunteer experiences, and your journey through nursing school. Let people know you exist before you graduate. 5. Gain Experience Anywhere You Can Volunteer. Join committees. Participate in research. Become a student leader. Employers don't just hire certificates; they hire evidence of initiative. The truth is this: Your degree will open the door, but your leverage determines how many doors open for you.

The career advice I wish someone had given me when I first arrived in the UK. When I moved to the UK as an internationally educated nurse, my goal was simple: work hard and do a good job. I believed that if I kept my head down, opportunities would eventually find me. Looking back, there are a few things I wish *someone had told me sooner.* 1. Have a career goal and a plan to get there. For a long time, I focused on doing my job well without asking myself where I actually wanted my career to go. 2. Don’t wait to prepare for your next Band. I assumed I had to spend years in my current role before thinking about progression. I now know that you can start building the skills, experiences, and evidence for your next role long before you apply. 3. Learn how to network. I thought networking was only for people in business or senior leadership. I didn’t realise that every conversation, every event, and every connection could open doors, provide guidance, and expand my perspective. Once I became intentional, my decisions changed. I started saying yes to opportunities that aligned with my goals and no to those that didn’t. Hard work is important. But hard work without direction can keep you busy without moving you forward.
