2025 I am still alive, Alhamdullilah Finals are over. Taking Chem/Physics/Math in one semester turned out to be more difficult than I thought. I have been inactive here and mostly I was busy with studying for exams.

Remember that the same 2026 QS Ranking that puts the National University of Singapore at 8th ranks Princeton 25th globally. And by the way, I hold an NUS diploma (in addition to my Yale-NUS one) and technically benefit from these “ratings.” But let’s be real here. Some universities just found more ways to “crack” the rankings, while truly established ones don’t even care at this point. @valeranotes
Came back for summer term after vacation in Uzbekistan Weather is really nice today despite the 40C degrees temperature Humidity is low ,and wind is making it more pleasant.
Countryside: No stress, no overthinking, Just peaceful life and nature. I got “reboot”, got fresh mind back in Uzbekistan.
"That’s part of the deal " You get something at cost of other thing You get free education/accomodation/stipend/funding from university in exchange of some loses. It is not always perfect win-win This is how the world is Everywhere you go , governments always support their citizens Employers give edge to locals so that they adhere to rules and regulations Locals have more chance, better opportunities to land a job than international students and it should be like this. Governments fight with unemployment so they have to hire someone from their country to keep the economy stable This is how the economy works. Getting a (good) job / internship — has never been easy and will never be
I wish I knew this before coming to KFUPM. Not vibrant social life Not "American" campus life you expect Not many internationals in the undergraduate International students come from mostly from Middle eastern and asian countries. Language barrier You can survive with English, but knowing Arabic will offer much more opportuinities and makes socialising easier. Internships Most companies accept only locals for internships programs It might be difficult for international students to find available internship roles. Study abroad programs: You cover your expenses if you you want to go exchange abroad. Part-time jobs You cannot work “officially” outside campus. You can only work , do part-time job inside the campus. Weather Unbearably hot and humid weather from May-October , though it gets moderate in winter Clubs Not many “active” clubs and not many extra-curricular activities City Almost fully car-dependent city Few pedestrian walkways Few , very few pedestrian crossings You can get to city centre and supermarkets by taxi but taking taxi is not for tight-budget students Though, If you own a car , this might be different and much easier to get around the city. Very few buses or almost no public transportation like subways There are some buses but has very limited route. Degree Not much popular degree outiside the KSA or Middle East But you can get subsidy in Uzbekistan with that degree considering university rank. Also employers in KSA give edge to employees from US, EU countries over others
