That had a past, but no future Wonderful people and, a little dreamy...” This is how Charles Aznavour himself begins his autobiographical book Le Temps des avants. And after this fairy-tale opening unfolds a truly extraordinary life story - one that continues to teach us, even today, that kindness always prevail, no matter what.💫

Toute la famille de ma mère a été tuée durant le génocide arménien. Son père, sa mère, sa sœur et ses deux frères. Sa grand-mère est venue en France avec elle, parce qu’elle vivait alors avec elle à Istanbul, où elle allait au collège. Mon père était aussi en Turquie à ce moment-là, et c’est ainsi qu’ils se sont rencontrés. Mon père avait un passeport russe, qui leur a permis de s’enfuir. Ils ont traversé de grandes difficultés, ils ont été persécutés, ils n’ont pas pu monter à bord du bateau à cause des tirs. Ils ont fui vers Thessalonique avec d’autres migrants, puis ils sont arrivés en France. — Հայոց ցեղասպանության ժամանակ մորս ընտանիքից ոչ ոք չի փրկվել՝ ո՛չ հայրը, ո՛չ մայրը, ո՛չ էլ քույր ու եղբայրները: Տատը նրա հետ եկել է Ֆրանսիա, որովհետեւ այդ ժամանակ նրանք միասին էին Ստամբուլում, որտեղ մայրս քոլեջ էր հաճախում: Այդ օրերին հայրս նույնպես Թուրքիայում էր, եւ նրանք հանդիպում են իրար: Հայրս ռուսական անձնագիր ուներ, եւ դրա շնորհիվ հաջողվում է փախչել: Նրանք հաղթահարում են բազում դժվարություններ, ենթարկվում են հալածանքների, կրակոցների պատճառով չեն կարողանում նավ բարձրանալ: Մյուս գաղթականների հետ մի կերպ հասնում են Սալոնիկ, այնտեղից էլ՝ Ֆրանսիա: — No one from my mother’s family survived the Armenian Genocide: neither her father, nor her mother, nor her siblings. Her grandmother came to France with her, as they were together in Istanbul at the time, where my mother was attending college. My father was also in Turkey then, and that is where they met. He had a Russian passport, and thanks to that, he managed to escape. They endured many difficulties, were persecuted, and were unable to board a ship due to gunfire. Somehow, they reached Thessaloniki with other refugees, and from there made their way to France.

Today we congratulate the birthday of the legendary Liza Minelli. Charles Aznavour was among the artists who deeply influenced her life and career. Their relationship went far beyond professional admiration - it was a true friendship built on artistic respect and personal affection. Minnelli herself once said: “Charles Aznavour changed my life. He changed my entire life.” And when Aznavour passed away in 2018, she wrote a deeply moving tribute: “Charles was my mentor, my friend, my love…I will miss him forever.” Today we celebrate not only Liza Minnelli’s remarkable career, but also the beautiful artistic bond she shared with Charles Aznavour - two performers united by their passion for storytelling through music.

Today is Aïda Aznavour-Garvarentz’s birthday and it’s the first time we mark this day without her. It still feels unusual to speak of her in the past. She had a long and meaningful life, rich in artistic experiences, resilience, and devotion to her family. This day is a reminder not of absence, but of a life fully lived - and of a woman whose presence remains quietly, firmly with us. “Aïda is my memory”, - Charles Aznavour would often say about his sister… The Aznavour Foundation will always keep that memory alive. Happy heavenly birthday, Aïda!

The sister of the Charles Aznavour - Aïda Aznavour-Garvarentz has passed away at the age of 102, the Aznavour Foundation announced on Wednesday. “Aïda passed away peacefully at the age of 102, leaving behind a life full of love, strength, grace, and devotion to her family and heritage. Born in Thessaloniki in 1923, Aïda shared with her brother not only their Armenian roots and Parisian upbringing, but also a lifelong bond of affection and understanding. Their connection was profound - rooted in shared history, music, and compassion. Aïda and Charles Aznavour’s relationship was one of deep mutual respect and artistic kinship. The two remained close throughout their lives, with Charles often referring to Aïda as one of his life’s steady anchors and his family’s memory. Aïda’s life was a bridge between generations - a witness to a century of change, creativity, and resilience. She carried forward the values that defined the Aznavour family: kindness, loyalty, humility, and a strong belief in the power of art and humanity,” it added. The Aznavour Family shared the following statement: “Our hearts are heavy with grief, yet full of gratitude for the years we had with Aïda. Her love and warmth will remain with us always. In her passing, we honour not only a beloved sister and aunt but a life lived with dignity and devotion.” The family wishes to thank all those who have expressed their condolences and shared memories of Aïda. She will be laid to rest in the family’s burial place in Montfort-l’Amaury, beside her family members and husband.
