Two babies swimming away from me last night

Not the greatest pictures but yesterday I finally managed to get out again and go and see the beavers, and the babies were out 🥰 The one in the first picture swam right underneath me (I took the pics while on a bridge) and the second one is playing with a parent or older sibling. I'm sure I saw 2 babies, maybe 3, and I'm so happy this years litter has been successful again 😊

Wishing our fellow semi-aquatic mammals a very happy International Otter Day! 🥳 🦦🤝🦫 Otters and beavers often share the same habitats, where the can coexist perfectly because of their vastly different diets. It's been found that otters might even prefer beaver ponds due to the better water quality and the abundance of some species of fish, however research on this topic is scarce. Otters have also been observed using (abandoned) beaver lodges for shelter in winter.

Picture taken yesterday Not far from this one two yearlings were also fighting over a fresh branch that one of them had bitten from a tree. They were really pulling it with their little beaver hands tug-of-war style and that was really cute and funny to see 😊
