🌐 Coinbase, Ripple to join Aug. 19 White House crypto meeting 🔔 Coinbase and Ripple executives have been named among the expected attendees at an Aug. 19 White House meeting involving at least six crypto and prediction market companies. The report did not identify the individual executives who will represent each firm. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse have both supported the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which remains stalled in the Senate after lawmakers left Washington for their August recess. ⚠️ CFTC Chairman Michael Selig and SEC Chairman Paul Atkins are also expected to participate, according to people familiar with the planning. Neither the White House nor the two regulators had published a formal agenda for the meeting at the time of writing. For Coinbase and Ripple, the meeting comes before a scheduled Senate test for legislation that could decide how the two main U.S. market regulators divide responsibility for digital assets. ‼️ The CLARITY Act would place spot markets for qualifying digital commodities under CFTC oversight while keeping crypto assets classified as securities within the SEC’s authority. It would also establish federal requirements for exchanges, brokers, dealers, advisers, and digital asset custodians. American investors could be directly affected by that division because a token’s regulatory status can determine where it may trade, which disclosures apply, and whether a platform must register with the SEC or comply with CFTC market rules.

📌 Galaxy says Ethereum, Solana may rethink token inflation models ⚠️ Galaxy Research Vice President Lucas Tcheyan said on Aug. 7 that Ethereum and Solana are confronting a similar policy question: how much token issuance is needed to pay for network security, and when does that security budget become more costly than useful? The debate is moving through proposal processes on both networks, but neither blockchain has approved an inflation change. 📣 One important update concerns Ethereum’s proposal number. Galaxy initially referred to the Tapered Issuance Burn proposal as EIP-8361. Ethereum’s EIP editors later assigned it EIP-8363 because EIP-8361 had already been allocated elsewhere. The EIP-8363 pull request remained open as of Aug. 9, and an editor requested changes on Aug. 6. ⭐️ EIP-8363 would burn a growing share of consensus layer validator rewards as Ethereum’s staking ratio rises. The burn fraction would reach 100% around a 50% staking ratio, removing new issuance as an incentive for additional staking beyond that level. The authors propose an 18 month transition because applying the full mechanism immediately would sharply reduce validator returns.

🔔 Hungary scraps crypto validator checks to align with MiCA framework ⚠️ Hungary has removed its controversial cryptocurrency validator requirement after lawmakers voted to repeal the rule, clearing the way for crypto firms including CoinCash to restore services under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework.Finance Minister Kármán András said the government decided to eliminate the requirement after the previous framework disrupted the domestic crypto market and led several companies to withdraw or suspend their services. ⭐️ The repeal removes an additional transaction approval layer that existed alongside MiCA while leaving the country’s licensing and compliance obligations for crypto asset service providers unchanged. The validator requirement originated under Hungary’s 2024 crypto assets law, which introduced a separate compliance process for selected cryptocurrency transactions. ⚡️ After the rules took effect on July 1, 2025, crypto-to-fiat and crypto-to-crypto conversions covered by the framework required approval from a licensed local validator before they could proceed. Validators had to examine the origin of digital assets, confirm wallet ownership, verify customer identities, and issue a compliance declaration before transactions could receive legal recognition.
