Dependency Theory argues that underdevelopment in poorer countries is not simply a result of internal weaknesses but is closely linked to their economic dependence on wealthier nations. Developed by thinkers such as Andre Gunder Frank, Fernando Henrique Cardoso, and Samir Amin, the theory divides the world into a core (wealthy industrialized countries) and a periphery (poorer developing countries). According to dependency theorists, the global economic system allows core countries to extract resources, labor, and wealth from peripheral countries, keeping them dependent and underdeveloped. As a result, development in some regions is often linked to the underdevelopment of others. Key Idea Poverty and underdevelopment are not accidental; they are often produced by unequal relationships within the global economic system. #dependencytheory #politicaleconomy #developmentstudies #globalinequality #socialscience #politicalscience

Can democratic societies achieve justice through communication, dialogue, and public reasoning rather than force and domination? Jürgen Habermas Jürgen Habermas (1929– ) is a German philosopher and one of the most influential contemporary political and social theorists. As a leading figure of the Frankfurt School, he argues that democracy depends on open communication, rational debate, and active citizen participation. Habermas developed the concept of the Public Sphere, a space where citizens can discuss public issues and hold power accountable. Through his theory of Communicative Action, he contends that genuine understanding and democratic legitimacy emerge from free and reasoned dialogue rather than coercion or manipulation. Important Works The Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere (1962) Theory of Communicative Action (1981) Between Facts and Norms (1992) #jurgenhabermas #democracy #socialscience #politicalscience

Is history driven by random events, or does it unfold through a deeper process of human freedom and self-awareness? Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel G. W. F. Hegel (1770–1831) was one of the most influential philosophers in modern history. He developed Absolute Idealism, arguing that reality, history, and human consciousness evolve through a dynamic process of contradiction and development known as dialectics. Hegel believed that history is not a series of accidents but a rational process through which human freedom gradually becomes realized. His ideas profoundly influenced political theory, Marxism, existentialism, phenomenology, and contemporary social thought. Important Works Phenomenology of Spirit (1807) Science of Logic (1812–1816) Philosophy of Right (1820) Lectures on the Philosophy of History Human history is the unfolding of freedom through conflict, contradiction, and self-realization. #hegel #dialectics #absoluteidealism #philosophy #politicalscience #socialscience

https://www.instagram.com/polscience.insta/ Robert Nozick (1938–2002) was an American political philosopher best known for defending individual liberty, private property, and the minimal state. In his influential book Anarchy, State, and Utopia (1974), he argued that justice is based on how people acquire and exchange property rather than on achieving equal outcomes. Nozick criticized redistributive taxation and extensive state intervention, claiming that individuals have strong rights that governments must respect. His work became one of the most important defenses of libertarianism in contemporary political theory. A just society protects individual rights and liberty, even if it results in unequal outcomes.
