  • ⚖️🇮🇳 Parliament Passes Tribunals Reforms Bill 2026 India has taken a significant step towards reforming its tribunal system. The Rajya Sabha passed the Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026 on 11 August 2026, a day after it was approved by the Lok Sabha on 10 August. The Bill proposes the creation of a National Tribunals Commission (NTC) to oversee the appointment of chairpersons and members of various tribunals across the country. The proposed Commission is aimed at bringing greater uniformity and transparency to the tribunal system. It will play an important role in the selection of tribunal heads and members, while helping streamline their administrative functioning. According to Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, tribunals play a complementary role in ensuring speedy justice. The reforms are intended to modernise the tribunal ecosystem and make the system more efficient. The Bill comes against the backdrop of continuing concerns over the independence, appointments and functioning of tribunals. The proposed National Tribunals Commission is therefore expected to provide a more consistent institutional framework for tribunals. The legislation is particularly important from a governance and judicial-reform perspective because tribunals handle specialised disputes and are intended to help reduce the burden on regular courts. 📌 Key Highlights - ⚖️ Bill: Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2026 - 🏛️ Lok Sabha: Passed on 10 August 2026 - 🏛️ Rajya Sabha: Passed on 11 August 2026 - 🏢 Proposed body: National Tribunals Commission (NTC) - 🎯 Main objective: Uniformity, transparency and efficiency in the tribunal system - ⚡ Focus: Speedy justice and streamlined tribunal administration - 👨‍⚖️ The Commission will be involved in selecting chairpersons and members of tribunals. 🎓 Exam Point of View Q.
