Cambodian Community at MGIMO

We are delighted to share the journey of one of our Cambodian students at MGIMO University, Yut Sreyleap, who was recently interviewed by Fresh News about her academic path and experience of studying in Russia. Having achieved a Grade A in Cambodia’s Grade 12 National Examination, Srey Leap later received a scholarship to pursue her Bachelor’s degree at MGIMO. During the interview, she spoke about the journey that brought her here, the effort behind her academic achievements, and some of the experiences that have shaped her life as a student in Moscow. Every student’s journey is different, and hers is a reminder that opportunities often come through patience, consistent effort and a willingness to keep learning. Studying abroad brings its own challenges, however it also opens the door to new perspectives, experiences and personal growth. As she continues her studies at MGIMO, the Cambodian community wishes her every success in the years ahead. MGIMO University has long been recognised as one of Russia’s leading institutions for diplomacy and international relations. Since the Soviet era, Cambodia has sent students to study at MGIMO, and many alumni have gone on to serve the Kingdom with distinction in diplomacy, public administration, academia, business, and many other fields. From 2021 to 2026, a total of 13 Cambodian students pursued their studies at MGIMO through the Preparatory, Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Fellowship programmes. While some have now completed their studies, the current Cambodian student community continues to carry forward this tradition. Beyond the classroom, Cambodian students actively contribute to academic research, international conferences, volunteer initiatives, and the promotion of Khmer culture. As this new chapter continues, we hope to see more Cambodian students follow this path, building on the legacy of those who came before them and further strengthening cooperation between our two countries.

Marking both the graduation of our seniors and the beginning of a new academic journey for our first-year students, we were honoured to have the opportunity to meet H.E. Dr. Kolpheng Vaddhana. We are sincerely grateful to His Excellency for taking the time to share his insights, experiences, and thoughtful advice. His encouragement was greatly appreciated and serves as a source of motivation as we continue our studies and careers. We hope to make the most of the knowledge and experiences gained at MGIMO and, in our own ways, contribute to Cambodia’s continued development and prosperity.
