They say in Buddhism, 'Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.' As we go through life, we all encounter pain. It doesn't matter what causes it losing a loved one, the death of a beloved pet, a breakup, or the wounds left by our parents. But is it really true that suffering is optional? Perhaps we remain trapped in it because, in some way, we keep choosing to drown in it. If we truly wanted to let go, wouldn't we be able to? Or maybe we need to stay with these emotions for exactly as long as they need to be felt. We often say feel every moment of happiness, joy, and love, fully experience them. But life is not made up of those emotions alone. Maybe we also need to feel every part of our pain and every loss with our whole being, so that, in time, we learn to recognize the difference between genuinely living through our pain and unconsciously clinging to it. Perhaps the path is not about escaping pain as quickly as possible, but about honestly walking through it and learning how to keep moving forward even while it hurts.
