My F-1 Visa Interview Experience (Uzbekistan) — Got 221(g) I want to share my exact experience because maybe it will help someone. Yesterday I had my F-1 visa interview in Tashkent. The approval rate is insanely low here. Out of around 100–200 applicants, almost everyone got denied. Only two students got something different — we both got 221(g). One was me, and the other was someone who was renewing his visa. That’s it. Here is what happened: When I reached the window, the visa officer didn’t look away from me at all. Once I started speaking, he kept full eye contact and didn’t even flinch. VO: Why are you coming to the USA? Me: I am coming to the USA to pursue my bachelor’s degree at X University. VO: What motivated you to choose this major? Me: bla bla nla bla He said: “Okay. Cool.” VO: Why not your home country? Me: I also applied to universities in Germany and Uzbekistan, but I chose the USA university that I applied — X University. Bla bla bla bla Me (continuing): Also, I love the location of the university.Bla bla bla bla I feel more comfortable in this kind of community. He said: “Cool.” VO: Who is paying? Me: My sponsor is my dad and my uncle. They’ve been working in Kazakhstan for almost 20 years. They help others find a job and take one portion of their income as commission. He said: “Aha.” Me: And their annual income is around 300k. He didn’t ask anything else. I even said: “Do you want to see their bank statement?” He said: “No thanks.” Then he typed something for a while, printed a paper, and gave me a 221(g). He said: “You will be notified.” I said: “Okay, thanks for your time, have a wonderful day.” He kept my passport and also kept my I-20. @colleapplication3

My mother is a general manager in a Agrobank. Both of their annual income around $85k. Such as my high GPA, motivation and recomendation letters and personal statement and my awards. Vo: government cotton factory? Me: yeah Vo: which bank? Because i didnt prepare well and stressed, but now im confident enough, because i have worked on myself professionally. Vo: yeah Me: We have already planed for upcoming future with my parents. My parents believe me after completing sucessfully i ll come back to my homeland. Specifically im going to open company, it manufactures medicine products like correctors and fixers for disabled people, i will work on online and ofline sales, i ll earn the trusts of my parents introduce the company on the world. First attempt Consulate: Tashkent Slot time: 9:30 24.05.2024 In time: 9:00 Out Time: 10:20 Counter: 10 Officer: A man with glasses in his 40s I guess Status: Approved Program: Bachelor's Degree Major: Economics University: Private Liberal Arts College in PA Scholarship: Almost full tuition (97%) Duration: about 7-10 minutes VO: why did you choose this college? Me: Well firstly because of its affordability. This college covers almost of my tuition and leaving me only 3-4k to be paid (interrupted) VO: (I just heard) specific reason Me: Officer I am telling one bye one. The next reason is because of its strong academic faculty. Coz, when I was searching the quality of education that this college offers, I just went to its website and saw that some people graduated from this college and were nominated for big prizes like the Oscar and one alumni got a Noble and I became sure that academic is strong. Then I moved to research about social life and it is also amazing. There are some activities I wanna participate in like rock climbing, hiking and many more when I go there. Yep so I chose this college VO: Who is your sponsor? I see there is still money to be paid Me: My dad is gonna be my sponsor. He is a businessman and he sells construction materials. He deposited *** dollars to the bank account which I will be using in the future. Do you wanna see the bank statement? VO: I know a lot of students who did fake bank statement like money will disappear after one day. Is this the same with you? Me: No officer. it is the money which I will use for my expenses in the future. Here is the bank statement. (oldi bank statement ni bitta qaradi keyin yana typing qilishga otib ketti) VO: What does you father do specifically? Me: My father is a businessman in our region. He produce sells and distributes construction materials like bricks, wood everything related to building industry. He sells his products to the government and also to my uncle who is architect. VO: Do you have siblings? Me: Yes and TOLD VO: Do you have any friends in the US? Me: Yes, I have a lot of international friends. I talked with them a lot. But I have never seen them in person. VO: Have you ever been abroad? Me: No officer, because of my school I have never been abroad and I will finish my school tomorrow you know. VO: How many universities did you apply? Me: I applied 7 universities and got accepted to all of them and they are TOLD When filling DS 160 I added my LinkedIn as an online presence account. The officer started to ask things in it. I was a bit worried and started to think about what I added to it BUT I kept the confidence and continued answering VO: What is this centre? (I added this place as I worked here) Me: It is the place where students study and learn English. Also there are other courses which are taught by skilled teachers. VO: Did you work there? Me: Yes I worked here. VO: What you did here as * Me: Told VO: Again asked is it related to giving money to people or do you fund them? Me: No officer I just give advice to them on how to spend their money and what course they should take.... (a bit worried but keep speaking) VO: Where are you from? Me: I am from (told the region) VO: Do you have SAT Me: Yes I have 1360 SAT, IELTS 7.5 and Gpa 5 out of 5 VO: What are your post-graduation plans? Me: To be honest officer, I haven't thought about it yet. But in my opinion, I will come back to my country coz, my father will turn into fifty when I graduate and I am the oldest in the family so I should look after my family. Also, I wanna continue my father's business. VO: DId you prepare for the interview? Me: No officer, I just researched a lot and talked with international students and also with some professors from universities. VO: Is there any groups and telegram chats that you worked with? Me: No officer, I just did a lot of research googled everything. Me: yes, but in Kazakhstan I went to get my SAT score VO: what is your score? Me: (I showed official document about IELTS and SAT) 1330 score VO: (he was texting smth on computer) I approve your Visa you can take it on Wednesday in 3 o’clock Me: what? (I didn’t hear it). 3 o’clock?✅ VO: yep Me: Wednesday? VO: yeah Me: thank you, have a nice day VO: thanks, you as well. My advise: to get prepared to all common questions and take care about all your documents and situation. Three main points: Sponsor, Why did you choose this university and Postgraduation plans. Me: GM ma'am, I am from Uzbekistan VO: Why are you going to the USA? Me: I am going to study Masters in BA at Carlow University VO: Why are you taking an interview from Singapore not from Tashkent? Me: We were planning to travel all these Asian countries near to the ocean and I searched the open windows for a US visa in these countries and I chose Singapore VO: If you are not resident of Singapore you do not have to take an appointment from this country. VO: Thanks for applying a US visa I can not approve your visa this time, please try again next time in your own country, Good luck!!! Me: He owns a logistics company and I am working in this company too and this company exports and imports mostly cars and they have a business tour this month over the 3 countries, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore because of these I took my appt here and as you can see I am shooting two rabbits at one time lol VO: That is great, what is your future plans after graduating the university? Me: Well, as I have said I am working in my Father's company after my study finishes I am going to improve this business with working more different countries and also my dad promised that I will be the main director once I get the american diploma and he is paying all my study expenses VO: What is the yearly profit of his company or his profit? First attempt Biometrics: July 2nd Consulate: Tashkent Slot time : 10:00 am In time: 11:00 Out Time: 12:00 Counter: 7 Program: Bachelors University: Colby College Scholarship: 100% VO: why did you apply to Colby? Me: Because it is a top liberal arts college VO: What makes it a top liberal arts college? Me: well, you can pursue several majors there, create your own schedule, sign up for any class you want, and there are very few major requirements. VO: Can you tell me about your Institutional grant? And is it renewable each year? Me: I was granted the scholarship because I had perfect GPA and high IELTS and SAT scores (didn't mention the scores). Yes, it is renewable for the next four years. VO: What are the requirements to keep the scholarship? Me: As long as you are enrolled, you receive the same scholarship amount each year. No requirements. If your financial situation doesn't change, your scholarship remains more or less unchanged. VO: I think everything is in order... (Grapped the red letter (visa issuance details given to the approved cases, but....) VO: Hold on a second, I got one question. Me: Yes? VO: No, your visa is approved, and you can pick up your passport with visa after 2 days from the address mentioned on the paper (pointed at the red paper). Me: Thank you, have a nice day. Tips: While waiting, I saw several (majority - around 75%) people getting their visa rejected and started overthinking. One of my acquaintances who came to extend his visa was asked too many seemingly irrelevant questions before issuing his visa. I was like "damn, what a question is that?" Finally, at 11.30, the visa officer called an English-speaking applicant to the window 7, and I went there, presented my I-20. @collegeapplication3

Program: Bachelor's degree University: Temple University Scholarship: 35% Duration: 5-6 minutes Outcome:Rejected ⛔️ I had a visa appointment in Guangzhou, China but I knew that Chinese visa process took some time to get due to my travel to Turkey, and I canceled my China visa application. So, I had to take US Visa interview in Tashkent. Me: Good morning officer, VO: Good morning, give me your documents Me: sure VO: What is your purpose of trip? Me: I am going to pursue my bachelor`s degree in criminal justice major at Temple University VO: Why do you choose this university? ME: When compared to other universities I was accepted, Temple University offers “ The Inside-Out Prison Exchange” Program. In this program students studying in Criminal Justice major travel to nearby state or local prison to take classes taught by Temple Criminal Justice Faculty member every week. VO: It is common in the USA. Why do you choose this university. I paused there. I had several reasons for that question but I was little bit worried after Visa officer asked the same question twice. I couldn't give other reason for that question. VO: okay, who is yoursponsor? Me: Well, My sponsor is my father. He is going to cover all the expenses related to my stay and study in the USA. He is an owner of “SAIDA ASRORXON” LLC Company which deals with supplying spare parts for different cars of Chevrolet model which is very popular in Uzbekistan. So, there are about 30 employees in my father’s company and annual turnover of the company is around something like more than 5 billion Uzbek sum, which is equal to 5 hundred thousand dollars. I think that it is good enough to cover all of my expenses in the USA. Visa officer stopped me. VO: Have you been abroad. Me: yes, I have been in Kazakhstan to take SAT, but I forgot to tell Turkey maybe because of anxiety. VO: What is your SAT score? ME: Told VO: Why is it low?, Sorry I can't approve your visa this time.
