*THE CHURCH OF PENTECOST-YOUTH MINISTRY-STREAMS OF LIVING WATER (A DAILY DEVOTIONAL GUIDE)* *TUESDAY, MARCH 2ND, 2021* *HELPING OTHERS TO STAND: KING DAVID AND KING SOLOMON* *Scripture Reading:* 1 Chronicles 22:1-19 *Exposition* King David, a warrior from his youth, is now old awaiting a call up yonder. His greatest heart desire was to build a temple for the LORD. Solomon had taken over the kingship but David decided to help Solomon stand by providing both logistics and loyalty. And David said, "Solomon my son is young and untested, so I will make ready what is needed for it. "So, David got ready a great store of material before his death (1 Chronicles 22:5). A positive factor in leadership is rejoicing over the successes of a successor. King David had fought all major battles for Solomon to enjoy peace for about four decades, but in addition, he made available what was needed for the building of the temple. This is a mark of a leader worth emulating. On the political scene David advised Solomon about people he had to watch carefully (1Kings 2:5). He also outlined the secret of his success as a king for forty years and admonished Solomon to adhere to them (1 Kings 2:3-4). Unfortunately, King Solomon, having had all the successes failed to pay attention to the father's warnings. And Solomon did evil in the eyes of the Lord, not walking in the Lord's ways with all his heart as David his father did (1 Kings 11:6 BBE). As others are helping us to stand as younger generation, we must pay attention to our mentors' admonitions. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ *Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to adhere to good counsels as others are helping me to stand firm in you. DEVOTIONAL | FRIDAY, FEBRUARY26, 2021 THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT IS LOVE SCRIPTURE READINGS: Galatians 5:22-26; Mark 12:29-31 EXPOSITION: Love is an integral component of the fruit of the Spirit. The apostle Paul in his letter to the church in Galatia contrasts the fruit of the Spirit with the works of the flesh. The works of the flesh are characteristics demonstrated by the carnal nature. The fruit of the Spirit are also the attributes and characteristics exhibited by the spiritual man through the enablement of the Holy Spirit. The believer is expected to say no to the deeds of the flesh and walk in the Spirit. When Jesus was quizzed by the teachers of the law about the greatest commandment, He stated that love to God and love to your fellow neighbour. In talking about the fruit, the Bible says “Against such things there is no law.” From this we realize that one major law that God requires us to observe is to have love. With genuine love, all the other components of the fruit begin to fall in place. As believers, we must demonstrate unrivalled love for God through deepening our relationship with Him. We must love the things God loves and hate the things He hates. In addition, we must love our fellow human beings, even our enemies. PRAYER: Pray as you are led. #PossessingtheNations

DEVOTIONAL | THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 25, 2021 ATTRIBUTES OF LOVE SCRIPTURE READINGS: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8; 1 John 4:18-21 EXPOSITION: Defining love has always been difficult. Many worldviews have influenced the definition of love. Today, we will be looking at some of the attributes of love. Love is kind and patient. By this, it is certain that one cannot say he or she loves and not think of the good of their neighbour. The one who claims to love must certainly show kindness to friends and enemies alike. Also, patience is seen in love. In dating and courting relationships one needs to walk in patience so as not to do things reserved for the married. In marriage a spouse out of love must demonstrate great patience in order to bring the best out of his or her partner. Unnecessary and unhealthy comparisons will only turn to ruin the marriage. Another attribute of love is being committed to unity and understanding than a desire to always win or appear right in all circumstances. We must learn that love would cause us to live in unison with the brethren rather than cause divisions. Also, there is no fear in love. Love dispels fear. When love exists among people, it takes away the fear factor. The fear of hurt, the fear of disappointment and insecurity are all dealt with when love is at work.
