India's Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) has issued a formal notice to Telegram demanding immediate and proactive action against the widespread distribution of pirated films and Over-The-Top (OTT) content. The government has set a 15-day deadline for the messaging application to submit an Action Taken Report. This directive marks a critical policy shift from temporary, piecemeal channel blocks to enforcing absolute platform accountability. Key Directives & Demands Enforced Deadline: Telegram must strengthen its internal anti-piracy systems and submit a compliance report within 15 days. Targeting Systemic Piracy: The platform must deploy tools to detect, report, disable, and remove infringing audio-visual materials. Cracking Down on Repeat Offenders: Government orders mandate swift action against illegal channels, groups, automated bots, and group administrators. Grievance Redressal: The I&B Ministry requested detailed structures of Telegram's internal grievance mechanisms made available to producers, OTT platforms, and law enforcement.

Let’s break the myth not many would know how the process really works and people simply push for reporting which may backfire as false reporting and no action would be taken:- the standard procedure should be as below to use Facebook or Instagram official impersonation form if you are the real person and can upload identity proof. This form is the most direct impersonation channel for Facebook or Instagram and Threads. Fill and attach a government id or other proof when requested under help section and report as impersonation Only people who are your (Real account) followers or mutual should report hence ask your followers colleagues and contacts who are already linked to your Facebook/insta id to report the account too with the same report flow. Multiple reports from real accounts and real followers can increase priority. Dont ask non-followers to do so as 90% of real accounts in the past were reported by mischievous groups and many genuine accounts were blocked hence they have set up new process don’t ask others to report do it by original account holder’s account and by followers or ask mutuals. Ask person whose account is impersonated to take complete screenshots of all pages, Chats to be extracted and url do report on cyber crime portal and may also reach out to cyber crime unit for immediate request to be sent through notice to Meta for action. - Adv.
