Why is important to become a T-shaped professional? ⚡ The letter T serves as a visual metaphor for a particularly skill set: ✅ Vertical Bar (deep discipline expertise) - you are an expert in one particular domain ✅ Horizontal Bar (cross-discipline expertise) - represents general knowledge from different domains To keep it simple, vertical bar is a representation of an individual's abilities and skills while the horizontal bar represents the person's ability to use those skills. S&P 1500 CEOs with broad cross-functional backgrounds earn roughly 19% more than specialists (source). Evidence suggests that you have to represent the best of two worlds: specialise in one domain, yet retain the generalist background. So those who say specialise in one domain are half right; whereas those that say be a generalist are half wrong 😁

  • This is why I don’t recommend Germany as a study destination - close to impossible to find a job without speaking fluent German in a structurally weak economy

  • Three easy ways to increase your income 💸🫰 Here is a step by step guide without extra BS. The intermediary figure, is understanding how much income you generate, how much do you spend and how much is left. Let's assume that you bring $1,500 and spend all of it. 1️⃣ Look at your main source of income, which is usually your job. The easiest way would be to get a promotion or finding a new job. To get a promotion, sit down with your boss and use the following script: ✅ What are the three priorities in the department that you are focusing on? ✅ Can we identify a step-by-step plan for me to help you solve them? ✅ Can we agree that once they are solved within a 9-12 month framework, we can discuss the opportunities for a promotion and salary increase? If that fails, start the search for a new job. Switching jobs usually bring extra 25% - 35% increase in income. Assuming you are able to keep your expenses stable, a $500 salary increase in a month can generate hundreds of thousands of additional income in your lifetime earnings. 2️⃣ If you have one source of income and its not enough, try the following: ✅ Side hustle - you can do consulting/teaching/driving/landscaping/writing/etc. Find anything you are good at, understand what problems you are solving and ask your closest network for some references. The best side hustle is turning your hobby into paid work. For instance, you like drawing and now you can get paid to draw for other people who like to buy your work. ✅ Invest in yourself. Get some courses, certifications (perhaps your employer can sponsor you), essentially, get better at what you are doing for a living 3️⃣ Monetize what you good at outside the 9-5 For instance, if you are doing data analysis at work, you can find people or companies to do that and get paid for it. There are 8 billion people in the world and a million of businesses - there is someone who has a problem that you can solve. If you are afraid to start, do it for free first to get some traction with word of mouth and then go around in your high street and talk to people. For instance, if at work you automate reports in Excel, you can walk into any restaurant and say that you can save the accountants 50 hours of work per year if you show them how to do it. Basically, find a problem and present a solution - people will pay for it

  • Why interview prep is underrated 😕 Passing interviews is an underrated skill because it can unlock: ✅ New job opportunities - standard job search involves passing assessments, multiple behavioural & technical interviews. Yet, at university, nobody teaches you to approach interviews ✅ Admissions & scholarship decisions - which often matter on the outcome of interviews. Whether its Chevening, El Yurt or Cambridge MBA, the last stage involves a behavioural interview. ✅ Insight for what kinda of company culture to expect - an interview is an idea place to ask questions on whether the corporate culture truly resonates with you. Fortunately, as part of both the Master's admission and Career Support Program, I help candidates to prepare for interviews. Just this year helped mentees to: ✌️ Secure a job offer from EY, Tashkent ✌️ Receive admissions and a generous $34,000 scholarship for Cambridge MBA ✌️ Secure multiple internships offers in Investment Banking in Amsterdam ✌️ Receive an Italian study visa DM @temur_yusupov if you want to get more guidance on interview prep - both technical and behavioural

  • The cost of being risk-averse 🫰💸 Here want to share my observations on some common objections I face from students and how much it actually costs them. Here is what I hear: 1️⃣ I am going to try it myself this year and come back to you next year 2️⃣ I have been doing this for a year (unsuccessfully), so will try to figure out for another year and then come back to you 3️⃣ I am not going to change anything in my life and hope I will figure out In Economics, one of the most fundamental principles is called opportunity cost, which represents the cost of the next best action you give up when making a choice. Let's imagine a hypothetical scenario: Alex works for 5 years in one company and makes $1,000/month. I offer him career support service as I believe his true market rate is at least $1,500 (likely higher). The price of career support is $2,000. In 4 months, we secure a job, where Alex now makes $1,500; so $500 extra income a month. By month 8, Alex not only recovered the initial investment but is now making 50% more than in his previous job. By month 12, he has $2,000 extra income. Extrapolate over a 40-year career, he made $500/month*12 months * 35 years = $210,000 in additional income. Therefore his initial $2,000 investment can bring him an additional $210,000 in lifetime earnings. Does that sounds a like good deal?
