Latifa Abouchakra, of Islamic Republic state broadcaster, Press TV, was arrested in Birmingham, UK while traveling to speak at the launch of an Anti-Zionist group. British police detained her for inciting racial hatred after past statements praising the October 7 massacre and rhetoric targeting Jews as colonizers. But the most important part of this story is not the arrest. It is why this person is operating in the United Kingdom in the first place. Press TV is not an independent media outlet. It is Islamic regime state propaganda media that acts as the voice of Khamenei. Tha is why they lost their Ofcom license in the UK more than a decade ago after regulators ruled it was controlled from Tehran and repeatedly violated broadcasting standards. It was stripped of the legal right to operate as a television channel in Britain. Yet today, its presenters and affiliates continue to work in the UK under the label of “journalism.” They appear at political events. They publish online. They embed themselves in activist spaces. This is how a banned state propaganda outlet rebrands itself through individuals rather than institutions. This is not about free speech. It is about foreign regime influence and incitement being laundered through the language of activism and media. If Press TV is not allowed to operate in Britain then neither should its representatives acting as de facto journalists and political agitators.

The round up of reformists in Iran by the Islamic regime is more than likely an attempt by the regime to create a fake opposition within their purview inside Iran so they can maintain some degree of control no matter what. This is a tactic that’s been employed by this regime for a long time, so it’s honestly to be expected with the regime teetering on the verge of collapse as it is these days. “Reformists” in Iran are simply another manifestation of the regime. They do not oppose Velayat-e Faqih, they do not want to change the system of the regime, they have sought only make enough “reforms” to get the world to stop looking, then the hardliners can carry on with their agenda. No reformist can be trusted, and they too have blood in their hands. The only leader that the Iranian people are calling for in the streets is Reza Pahlavi.
