  • Attention Parents, Guardians, and Teachers! The 2026 School Selection Exercise begins today, Monday, 3rd August, and ends on Friday, 7th August. Candidates are encouraged to choose schools that match their BECE performance. While it is good to be ambitious, selecting schools based on realistic academic expectations can improve the chances of placement. Take time to carefully review the available school options, seek guidance where necessary, and ensure all choices are submitted before the deadline. Best wishes to all BECE candidates as they take this important step toward Senior High School. #bricyboateng #school #SchoolSelection

  • In the end, the government yielded to their demands. This is the time for our union leaders to show the same resolve once again. Otherwise, history will repeat itself. When exactly will GES release the formal promotion letters to enable us to apply for salary adjustment? We are already in the seventh month of the year. Even if the letters are released next month, will there be sufficient time for CAGD to process the applications and place us on the correct salary scales before the end of the year? What about teachers who are due to write this year's Promotion Aptitude Test? Will they even have the opportunity to sit the examination this year when the successful candidates of the 2025 examination have still not been placed on their new salary scales? Could this be the reason why funding for our placement was conspicuously absent from the Mid-Year Budget? My humble appeal goes to Thomas Musah, King Ali Awudu and Jacob Anaba to, as a matter of urgency, intervene on our behalf so that we can be placed on our appropriate salary scales by August this year. It should not take an entire year for teachers who have successfully passed a promotion examination to be placed on their rightful salary scales. It is both disheartening and frustrating to go through the stress of writing and passing a promotion examination only to remain unplaced months afterwards. Teacher unions, this is the time to speak and act. Come out now and fight for us. The injustice within the system is beginning to rear its ugly head once again. Thank you. Written by: A 2025 Successful Candidate of the Promotion Aptitude Test.

  • AN APPEAL TO G.E.S AND THE TEACHER UNIONS ON THE DELAYED PLACEMENT OF 2025 PROMOTION EXAMINATION SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES. A question was recently posed to the GES Public Relations Officer, Mr Daniel Fenyi, regarding when the successful candidates of the 2025 Promotion Aptitude Test would be placed on their appropriate salary scales. His response was that affected teachers should contact their respective District IPPD Officers. Prior to this, messages circulating on social media had suggested that successful candidates would be required to apply individually for salary adjustment once the formal promotion letters are released. We all know what this points to. The placement of promoted candidates was not even captured in the Mid-Year Budget presented to Parliament. This feet-dragging attitude by the government is not new. We experienced a similar situation during the first term of H.E. John Dramani Mahama's administration when the current Vice President served as the Minister for Education in 2013. Teachers who were promoted and upgraded, despite receiving their formal promotion letters, were instructed to apply for salary adjustment individually—exactly what Mr Daniel Fenyi appears to be suggesting now. We submitted application after application and document after document, yet only a handful of teachers received payment. We were made to believe that the exercise was riddled with ghost names and inaccurate data, and that the documents were undergoing audits. We were assured that payment would be made after the completion of the audit. As I write today, quite a number of us who upgraded in 2013 are yet to receive a single pesewa in upgrading arrears. I am afraid history is about to repeat itself if care is not taken. We have walked this path before. Our union leaderships must not allow us to walk it again. We wrote the Promotion Aptitude Test on 28th and 29th December 2025. The results were released in May 2026—five long months later. We remained patient and said nothing. We expected to be placed on our new salary scales in June, but the Controller and Accountant-General's Department (CAGD) did not effect the changes. Fast forward to July. When the salary validation window was opened, not a single successful candidate had been placed on the appropriate salary scale. Our hopes then shifted to August. Suddenly, a message surfaced on social media, allegedly from a trusted source, claiming that successful candidates would have to apply individually for salary adjustment once the formal promotion letters were released. Initially, I dismissed it as mere speculation. However, the GES Public Relations Officer, Mr Daniel Fenyi, appeared to confirm this on his Facebook page by directing affected teachers to contact their respective District IPPD Officers. Over the years, especially since the promotion interview system was replaced with the aptitude test in 2019, salary placement has been done automatically. Teachers were never required to apply separately for salary adjustments. This system has worked smoothly for at least seven years without unnecessary stress. Why is this year different? We were told that President John Dramani Mahama had learnt lessons from the past, and many teachers voted massively for him during the last election, contributing significantly to his decisive victory and his party's parliamentary majority. Is the President aware of the decision being taken by the relevant authorities? Now, to the leadership of the teacher unions; GNAT, NAGRAT, CCT-GH or PRETAG, what are you doing about this? Will you sit back and allow history to repeat itself? I vividly remember another occasion when successful candidates were asked to apply individually for salary adjustment because CAGD had introduced a new payroll system and claimed it could no longer place teachers automatically. It took the intervention of the teacher unions, who demanded that the new system be suspended until all affected teachers had been placed on the correct salary scales. They even threatened industrial action.

In a circular dated 8th July 2026 and signed by the Director-General, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, GES said the exercise forms part of efforts to ensure the equitable distribution of teaching staff nationwide. Regional Directors have been directed to work with Metro, Municipal and District Directors to identify schools with surplus teaching staff and submit details of affected teachers, including their names, staff identification numbers, subject specializations, and other required information using an attached template. According to the directive, all completed reports must be submitted through the respective Regional Directors to the Office of the Director-General by Thursday, 23rd July 2026.
