Our age of standards and memories of such is collapsing. People won't remember or even be able to appreciate the past when shown it. We're now entering an Age of Churn where the life of fads and trends will shorten and be increasingly vacuous. Mostly people will praise things just because of brand recognition. E.g. "Brawndo has electrolytes." The Odyssey is now a brand, just like Christopher Nolan is a brand. I knew that Jim had been ill for a while, but still this was shocking news. He was one of the best writers of our time, and I am glad I got a chance to tell him that. I am also glad we got to have a few conversations on air. I'll try to dig up the recordings we did together. A man with integrity and tons of talent. An American writer of a type that will never appear again on the world stage. Rest in peace, Jim Goad.

This one really hurts. I had no idea Jim Goad had been ill. I came to his writing late, around 2016, but it still left a lasting mark on me. The radical right desperately needs voices like his: sharp, fearless, darkly funny, and impossible to tame. There are far too few of them. Rest in peace, Jim Goad. Your work will live on.
