People unfamiliar with the Syrian Civil War often miss how complex the fighting really was. The most violent battles were frequently between ISIS and the Nusra Front (led by current Syrian president Ahmed al-Sharaa / Jolani). These groups weren’t primarily focused on the Assad regime. In many cases, ISIS fought little to no direct battles against Assad’s forces. Instead, the pattern was: FSA and other rebels would battle Assad, push them out of cities and towns — then ISIS would move in and ambush the rebels. Practically all territory ISIS captured came from rebel groups like the FSA, not from the regime itself. A brutal reminder of how infighting fractured the opposition.

🇨🇦Montreal Shooting: Police Officer, Civilian, and Suspect Killed in Côte-des-Neiges Incident A deadly shooting unfolded Monday morning around 11:35 a.m. in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood (near De Courtrai & Trans Island Aves, close to a Hilton hotel, kosher spots, Jewish schools & Chabad MADA center). Police responded to a 911 call about shots/gunfire. A lone suspect (armed with a long gun, reportedly in camouflage) opened fire, sparking a shootout. 3 killed: • A male Montreal police officer (first SPVM line-of-duty death since 2002) • Civilian Rabbi Michael Moshe Mizrahi (local Jewish community/Chabad member) • The suspect (neutralized at scene) A female officer was injured but is now stable. Nazi symbols, writings, and patches were visible, indicating a clear ideological motive behind the attack. The suspected gunmen were identified by law enforcement and multiple outlets as Cain Clark, 17, and Caleb Vazquez, 18. Investigators say they appeared to be radicalized online and are treating the San Diego mosque attack as a hate crime.
