  • CALIFORNIA BEARING RATIO TEST ( CBR )  CBR Test (California Bearing Ratio Test) The CBR Test is a laboratory or field test used to evaluate the strength and bearing capacity of subgrade soil and pavement materials.   • 🌊 COUNTRIES CONTRIBUTING THE MOST PLASTIC TO THE OCEANS Plastic pollution is a global problem but some countries contribute much more plastic waste to the oceans through rivers than others. Research by Meijer et al. (2021) estimated that the Philippines was the largest contributor of riverine plastic emissions, followed by India, Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Myanmar, Brazil, Vietnam, Bangladesh and Thailand. (PubMed Central (PMC)) These numbers should not be seen simply as blaming individual countries. They highlight how population rainfall geography waste management systems and the amount of mismanaged plastic waste can influence how much plastic reaches the ocean. Rivers are a major pathway for plastic pollution and improving waste collection recycling responsible disposal and reducing single use plastics can make a real difference.   • Can trees really cool our cities? A global study led by the University of Cambridge analysed 182 scientific papers since 2010 to assess how effectively trees lower urban temperatures. Key findings: Trees can reduce pedestrian-level air temperatures by up to 12°C. In 83% of 110 cities, tree planting brought the hottest month’s average temperature below 26°C. Cooling is strongest in hot, dry climates (≈9°C reduction), moderate in temperate zones (≈6°C), and more limited in humid regions. However, trees can slightly raise night-time temperatures — from +0.4°C in dry to +1.5°C in temperate cities — posing trade-offs for heat recovery.
